I received my undergraduate degree from the University of Oregon and graduated with departmental honors in 2009 with a bachelor of science in geological sciences. I completed an honors thesis on post-glacial fluvial incision in the central southern Alps of New Zealand, which incorporated field work conducted during my study abroad experience. Shortly after graduating I was hired as a geologist by a company trying to develop low temperature geothermal resources in Texas, but the company was unable to secure funding so I started working at the Bureau of Economic Geology in Austin, Texas. In the winter of 2012 I was accepted at the Colorado School of Mines and began working towards my Masters degree in June of 2012, which focused on characterizing the water chemistry variability in 20 perennial tributaries to the Colorado River in the Grand Canyon. I graduate with a MS in May of 2014, and have since transitioned back to Oregon. I have a strong background in earth sciences, chemistry, math, and physics and would love to have the opportunity to assist students in these areas. I am passionate about applied science and believe that it is extremely beneficial for young students to learn this material with context, because without any context these subjects can seem like a waste of time and not worth the effort to learn. I enjoy physical activity, mostly through hiking, running, or playing soccer. I have gone on several long backpacking treks along the Pacific Crest Trail in the Sierras and around South Lake Tahoe. My biggest hiking trip was 180 miles along the John Muir Trail from Yosemite National Park to Bishop Pass over 10 days. I have two dogs, a beautiful wife, and a new baby girl.

My interest in tutoring stems from my passion for learning, planning, and optimizing productivity. I graduated from Macalester College with a Psychology major and a Mathematics minor. Since graduation in 2013, I have taken a great interest in practicing strategies to increase productivity. I have found that the most simple planning and a devotion to a small set of strategies can help a person accomplish in a day what they typically do in a week, without burning out! I believe these strategies are the most powerful in the hands of students by allowing learning to be engaging and genuinely enjoyable. The future will be shaped by motivated, fearless, efficient learners.

I love helping students find their own uniqueness and truly begin understanding how their brain works to help them learn in the most effective way.In the beginning of my teaching journey I worked as a substitute teacher in a variety of schools around Queens, NY.The following year, I was a traveling science teacher for grades K-3.I also was a test prep tutor for grades 3-5 to prepare them for their New York State standardized tests.I taught 3rd and 5th grade full time in Queens, NY for 3 years.In the summers and on Saturday mornings I taught ESL to small groups of students in various Chinese schools throughout Queens and tutored struggling students in one on one sessions.After having my own children, I created a baby sign language business where I taught beginner American Sign Language Vocabulary through music and song in mommy and me style class to parents with infants and toddlers. I often recommend that parents teach struggling readers the American Sign Language alphabet because research shows that it helps students enhance their spelling skills.I also taught English to students in China on an online platform.I received my bachelor's degree in general education grades 1-6 with a minor in english and my master's degree in teaching student's with disabilities. Both degrees are from St. John's University. I also have an TESOL certification that I received when I began teaching online.I tutor all subjects in elementary school and I especially enjoy teaching reading, test prep, ESL and math.I believe all students are capable to progress in their learning when a love of learning is present.
