College English Tutor • +15 Subjects

After graduating from DePaul University with my Bachelor's degree in English Literature, I then went on to receive my Master's degree in Secondary Education from Saint Joseph's University. I became a high school English teacher in Newark, NJ following an excellent experience coordinating an after-school tutoring program in Cincinnati, OH. As a tutor, a teacher, and a mother, I am committed to the world of education. It has been most rewarding to tutor my students in English, literature, and writing. I firmly believe that students learn best when engaging in material that is meaningful to them. I help my students to find relevancy in what they're learning, and I always tailor my lessons to meet the individual needs of the student. Outside of education, I enjoy practicing meditation, cooking, and expressing myself through bonsai and wood burning art.

Sharing my knowledge with others is a passion of mine as I love to help others and see others grow while I grow. I have informally helped tutor students in the past and have also more formal experience teaching students with their homework and with environmental education. The program was part of a community after-school program called SWAG and the ages of the students ranged from 4-12 years old.I will be receiving my B.A.S.S. (Bachelor of Arts in Sustainability Studies) at the University of Florida June 2022. I am also working towards a TEFL certificate, which I intend to complete this June.I tutor/teach TEFL, English, Reading, and Writing. While I enjoy tutoring all of these subjects, my favorite subject to tutor would have to be TEFL as I really enjoy engaging with other culture in addition to helping students grow.My teaching philosophy and style is to be as "hands-off" as possible. While I understand the need for a tutor to be a source of knowledge and guidance, I believe that a student is the best resource for effective learning. In order for this to be possible, I strive to create opportunities for students to actively engage in the material as much as possible. In this way, the more that this autonomy is nurtured, the more successful the student will be. However, in light of this, I also try to be as engaging as possible when lessons and instruction are taking place. At the end of the day, I believe that the student's growth and learning trumps all else.Outside of academia my interests involve wanting to travel, being creative, hanging with my pets, going outside, reading books, and cooking.

I have 4 years of experience tutoring elementary through high school level students. Of my subject range, I enjoy tutoring ACT test prep and high school math related courses the most. I enjoy teaching because I love seeing the "lights come on" expression when my students finally grasp a concept they've been struggling with. My teaching style is active and organization focused, and I also hope to impart the mentality that has helped me succeed in my academic career. In my free time I cook some mean steaks, play valorant, listen to true crime podcasts and practice martial arts.

I am a lover of words, English literature, and creative writing with a PhD in Creative Writing from the University of Lancaster in England. Prior to moving to the UK, I studied at Rutgers University where I earned a BA in English and a Fulbright Scholarship that funded my MA in Creative Writing, which was also completed at the University of Lancaster. While I specialized in poetic structure, my interests range from dissertation and thesis writing to all manner of creative writing genres and English literature interpretation. My goal as an instructor and teacher has always been to help my students strengthen their writing abilities while gaining an appreciation for the multifaceted nature of words and literature. I believe that the best teachers are those willing to be taught and, as such, I highly value academic discussion around individual interpretation. As a teacher, I have several years of experience in both university classrooms and tutoring / writing centers. I have taught students whose abilities range from grade school writing basics to university-level thesis compilation.

3rd Grade Tutor • +53 Subjects

I have a very extensive experience in teaching and tutoring. For 20 years I taught third grade with most years averaging mid fifth to mid seventh grade level for the entire class on standardized test scores. This includes Special Education and Learning Disability students. Some students attained post high school progress while in the third grade. When I trained other teachers, they got the same results. I was given honors by the Governor of Idaho. I have also taught abused children at a private school. Tutoring experience includes elementary Reading and Math, high school Algebra at the Houston ISD, and English as a Second Language to students and adults. Tutoring individuals or small groups is the key to success for many learners having difficulties or for learners who want to excel in success.

The first thing you should know about me is that I sincerely believe all students can do great things and are capable of learning. I've worked with many students who were told they would never get an A, or never graduate, or never pass a test. With my help, they were able to achieve all of these things and more! The second thing you should know about me is that I am a hard worker. When I work with students, I am driven and dedicated to their success. We will work hard together to ensure achievement. The third thing you should know about me is that I love to have fun! Learning should not be scary, intimidating, or overwhelming. In my sessions, we will find exciting and interesting ways to practice content and complete tasks. I look forward to the opportunity to work closely with students who need extra support and guidance in reading, writing, essay editing, grammar, literature, phonics, and study skills.
