We covered rational functions including finding asymptotes and holes. He had a very positive attitude toward the material. I showed him why asymptotes exist and how they are formed by BOT long run behaviors of functions and dividing by zero. I left him with practice from the chapter to help him for an upcoming quiz. He received a grade of 95 on the last quiz, the highest mark since we began working together.

We worked on Pythagorean theorem exercises, with the simplification of radicals, and with multiplying by conjugates to clear radicals in a denominator. This was a much better day. Next time, we're going to look at some organizational ideas for the student to use in the waning weeks of school.

The student and I continued with the area of polygons. She definitely does better when she has her flashcards in front of her; we also added several new cards to the pile. I would like to see her adding more cards on her own if at all possible. She did well!

Student A worked on studying for her math test. We practiced adding and subtracting fractions. We also worked on reducing fractions. She also worked on identifying different fractions using pictures. Student B is working on memorizing her three multiplication facts. I left her with a book of multiplication facts she is to work on. I also left her multiplication cards with two's and three's to practice.

Tutoring review by Traci in Newnan, GA
The student worked on the practice test we started last week, completing the second math section and the remaining reading passages. She is very solid in her math skills, for the most part, and reading is also going pretty well. The verbal section is most challenging for her, so we worked with some other practice materials for a bit. Then, she did the remaining synonym questions from the practice test. I recommended a couple of online sources for her to continue to work on analogies; one is pretty simple and will help her build fluency so that she can get through the test more efficiently, and the other is very clear in helping students understand the different kinds of bridges used in analogies, which is sometimes quite tricky.
