I am a rising senior at Duke University who is Pre Med and majoring in Asian and Middle Eastern Studies. I was born and raised in Miami FL and went to public school until college (Sunset Elementary, GW Carver Middle and Coral Reef Senior High for those from Miami). I decided to start tutoring because I would not be on this path had I not had good teachers supporting me along the way. For that reason I want to be able to help others achieve their goals without academics being a huge hurdle.

I'm passionate about guiding high schoolers through the college application process. The admissions process is probably one of the most confusing, anxiety-inducing experiences you'll have in high school, but I'm full of ideas for making the entire process as successful and stress-free as possible. I've successfully guided many students through every stage of admissions -- from figuring out where to apply and then staying organized and on-track, to "packaging" themselves and producing a perfect personal statement -- and I love witnessing them achieve their admissions dreams.

I am a rising senior at Duke University majoring in Psychology and minoring in English. I first started tutoring when I was 10; I'd explain new words in books to my little sister and help her with cursive, work on times tables with my older brother, and teach the little bit of English I knew to my immigrant parents. I tutored students in my middle school through a counseling program, helped deaf and disabled students develop social and creative skills, and freelance tutored throughout high school, and have tutored Spanish-speaking immigrant families (ages 6-12) in Durham, NC since October 2018. Other teaching experiences include training my dog to go down a slide on command and teaching my 10th-grade precalculus teacher how to hand whistle. Though I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English, Literature, and Writing. I believe reading and writing are not only complex forms of thinking, but avenues for understanding someone else's unique perspective and ways of being in life. I have the most fun helping my students dissect arguments and meaning from texts, especially when it's in Spanish, my native language. When I'm not tutoring, I most likely am listening to music, playing board games with my family, or looking at cat videos online.

I'm a passionate explorer, educator, and scientist. I am a Planetary Science Researcher (PhD, 2008). I write grants to NASA to use spacecraft data to study the composition and evolution of rocky planetary bodies (Moon, Mercury, asteroids). My research is broad and interdisciplinary that equips me to tutor many subjects and also to show students connections between subjects when it improves subject mastery. I have been teaching and tutoring for over twenty years, at every level of my education and career. In high school I taught aerospace education and aviation search and rescue while I earned my pilot's license. As an undergraduate at Duke I tutored athletes in Geology, Calculus, and Electrical Engineering core courses and I was a teaching assistant for Computer Science and Linear Circuits Laboratory. In graduate school I was a teaching assistant in geology. And as a professor, I've taught undergraduate and graduate science courses at a major U.S. research university. Most recently I designed a combined English and Engineering elective to students with limited English Proficiency at a small university in Colombia.

My tutoring sessions are interactive, patient, and highly personalized. I don't believe in a one-size-fits-all methodeach student learns differently, so I adapt my approach to match their individual pace, goals, and learning style. I focus on helping students truly understand the why behind each concept, not just memorize formulas or shortcuts. Together, we work step-by-step through problems, discussing reasoning, strategy, and underlying principles until everything clicks. My goal is to build lasting confidence and clarity. Whether a student is catching up, aiming to excel, or just trying to feel more comfortable with the material, I create a supportive environment where they can ask questions freely, think critically, and stay engaged. I also believe in strong communicationkeeping parents informed and helping students take ownership of their learning. Above all, I want my students to leave each session feeling capable, confident, and genuinely connected to what they're learning.

I am a graduate of SUNY University at Albany. I received my Bachelor of Science in Economics and Japanese with a minor in History in 2010. Since then (and even before as a sub) I have predominantly been teaching in the New York City public education system. I had worked as a substitute teaching assistant since 2008, moving between dozens of NYC public schools before finally settling in late 2011 at M.S. 216 George J. Ryan--an incredibly diverse middle school in Queens. During my tenure in the school system I have spent time teaching students from Pre-K to 12th grade, from all cultural background and socioeconomic statuses. Regardless of whom I have taught, I have always enjoyed it, partly because I often learn as much from my students as they learn from me. Regardless of the subject, I love teaching, and I find it to be one of the most rewarding and meaningful activities, which cliched as it may sound, really can make a difference in people's lives. Besides teaching, I am also keenly interested in the human body, specifically biomechanics, kinesiology, and rehabilitation through movement. I am currently enrolled in a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Washington University in St. Louis, which I should finish in 2018. Hobbies: art, books, sports, reading, music, writing

I am graduated from Penn State University in Industrial Engineering in 2017. I've tutored ever since I was in high school, and I love helping people! I like to help my students understand math (and other topics) instead of just doing it blindly. My goal is to help my students improve their math (and other topics) and build skills that will help them find learning easier in the future! Fun fact, I used to work for Disney and I like to salsa dance!

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Lake Worth's 21 schools with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends a public, charter, or private school in the area, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum and Florida's academic standards.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction is particularly effective for helping students master Florida's standards because tutors can focus on the specific concepts your student finds challenging. With a favorable 17.9:1 student-teacher ratio in Lake Worth schools, supplemental tutoring fills gaps by providing the kind of focused, individualized attention that accelerates progress toward grade-level and standardized test benchmarks.
Lake Worth students typically seek help with math, reading, and test preparation—particularly as they progress through elementary into middle and high school. We also connect students with tutors for science, writing, and exam prep for Florida assessments, SAT, and ACT. The specific needs vary by grade level, so we match each student with a tutor experienced in their subject area and academic goals.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's current level, learning style, and specific goals—whether that's catching up in a particular subject, preparing for a state test, or getting ahead. Tutors typically assess what's working well and where support is needed, then create a personalized plan moving forward.
Tutoring costs vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions. We work with families to find a tutoring plan that fits their budget and schedule. To get pricing details specific to your student's needs, connect with our team and we'll provide transparent information about rates and package options.
Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who have subject expertise and teaching experience. Many tutors in the Lake Worth area have backgrounds in education, hold relevant certifications, or have demonstrated mastery in their subject areas. We vet tutors to ensure they're equipped to help your student succeed.
Yes. Personalized tutoring is especially powerful for students who are falling behind because tutors can slow down, reteach concepts, and build confidence at your student's pace. Rather than keeping up with a classroom of 18,765 students across Lake Worth's schools, your student gets focused attention on exactly what they need to catch up and progress.
Simply reach out to Varsity Tutors with information about your student's grade level, subject, and goals. We'll match them with an experienced tutor and schedule a first session. Most families can get connected and start within a few days, making it easy to add support when your student needs it.
