I'm a current medical student at the University of Arizona College of Medicine with undergraduate degrees from Washington and Lee in chemical engineering and anthropology. I have extensive experience in tutoring and teaching since 2010, and am ready to help you with your learning needs! I focus on standardized testing (SAT/ACT) and also tutor in a wide range of math, English, and Spanish classes. In my free time, I like to run, do CrossFit, volunteer, and watch TV!

I am studying Chemical Biology in UC Berkeley. One of my passions is Organic Chemistry, which I used to loath but now enjoys after taking a year of it. Also, because I like helping others, I enjoys tutoring/teaching students who are struggling. During high school, I have tutored other high students after school on various subjects such as Math, Physics, Chemistry, and Latin. During college, I have held informal review sessions for General Chemistry and Organic Chemistry for my underclassmen. I t...

I'm a retired hi-tech professional with a passion for education. I view tutoring as a way to help the next generation develop the skills that will be required of our future workforce. I helped my children ace the PSAT and SAT and secure college scholarships. My daughter was a National Merit finalist. I helped one of my VT students qualify for National Merit and secure admission to Harvard and two others to secure high school scholarships. I look forward to working with you to help you achieve yo...

I am a constructivist educator. This means that my goal is to make meaningful connections between what my student already knows and the material they are attempting to learn. I think students learn best when they are appropriately challenged in a safe learning atmosphere.

I am looking at their work 'from the outside' and can therefore see where they have improved whereas the student might see their struggles more clearly than their progress. I also believe and emphasize that learning is an ongoing process, and academic skills don't come naturally to most people - they are skills which require practice over time. With a subject like Spanish, I try to relate to the student's struggles by talking about issues that I found difficult as well.

I am a fan of the "Pomodoro Technique," which uses a timer to split each half hour of the session into a 25 minute work period followed by a 5 minute break. The promise of a short respite helps students power through distractions, and the break helps ward off frustration.

I am working with a student on an essay, I will work with them by going through both comprehensive edits (thesis, focus, commentary) and then minor edits (grammar, active voice, punctuation). I am very excited on the first day of every semester to meet my new students! It is my goal to make all the material relevant and interesting. I want my students to be as excited as me to learn each and every class. While I currently teach college students professionally, I still really enjoy tutoring younger students. I have worked with students from kindergarten all the way to 12th grade, teaching math, computers, English, and Spanish. I look forward to my time working with students and will d...
