The student showed me her most recent test, on which she scored a 97-- great work! This session we focused on completing a lab related to ionic compounds and reactions and then she worked through homework problems with moles. The homework seems to be time-consuming but she says she has not had an issue with feeling a time crunch when taking tests. She's doing a fantastic job of keeping up with the material and making sure she really learns every concept thoroughly before the class moves onto the next topic. Because of the cumulative nature of chemistry courses, she is setting herself up for great success later by working so hard now.

We covered understanding word problems involving multiplication as well as simple division. The student caught on to both of our topics quite quickly, and she seems to be progressing well. I taught her some different strategies for solving division problems. For homework, she is supposed to do some of the practice multiplication word problems in our workbook as well as the basic division word problems. We also discussed improving her reading ability. I continued to emphasize the importance of regular practice, and we made plans for doing some college level work with nonfiction text.

During this session, we focused on the student's critical lens essay for English class. Her grammar has gotten much better, as she has had practice while studying for the state exam. She still has trouble with analysis of quotes and so we worked on formulating her ideas so that they connect to the question and have a common point throughout. After going over the main idea and thesis, she was able to come up with introductory and conclusion sentences that helped her express the ideas in a coherent manner. We will begin next session by going over work for Algebra I. I assigned her problems on factoring and multiple step equation solving for homework to help her grasp this topic.
