We discussed his math homework. He is learning about substitution and elimination with two-variable equations. I worked with him on recognizing when those concepts could be useful in word problems and how to approach the problems in reverse. After the session, we discussed the placement test he has coming up soon. I am going to help him prepare for that in future sessions.

Tutoring review by Ahmad in Warrensburg, MO
Today we covered average velocity and instantaneous velocity. We learned that instantaneous velocity is the velocity at a certain point, or instant of time. It is the slope of the tangent line to a certain point on a displacement versus time graph. On the other hand, average velocity requires more than one time point. On a displacement versus time graph, it would be the slope of the secant line, or the line connecting the two points. The average velocity, in other words, is the displacement divided by the total time. The student was eager to learn the material. Overall, it was a good session.
