We prepared for two of the students tests because she had missed a significant amount of school. We worked on graphing inequalities and scatter plots primarily, choosing best fit lines and solving for slope. She seemed to have a fairly strong handle on the material, and we ironed out any kinks. She solved her practice test and went through class notes.

Today, the student and I went over exercises related to finding the errors in sentences. She is still learning English so it is sometimes difficult for her to find the grammatical errors. We went over the different grammar rules regarding pronouns, adverbs and adjectives as well as plural vs. singular words and ensuring that the sentences keep the same tense throughout. We also went over a prompt and we talked about how she could structure that in an essay. For our next session, she will attempt to write about the prompt we discussed and we will also complete a math practice test.

We continued working on sample and experiment design. The student recalled her understanding from last week, but needed practice putting it to practical use. We went over practice AP exams that required her to create experimental designs for certain scenarios. We covered extraneous variables as well as the concepts of blocking, applying placebo, and the difference between a single blind and a double blind study. We ended the session going over common mistakes performed in experiment design.

We covered the graphs of polynomial functions during our session. We covered finding zeroes of these functions, how many curves these functions have, and evaluating functions at specific x-values. The student did very well and seemed very eager to learn the material.
