Tutoring review by Rudy in Sunnyvale, CA
The student started the trig functions in geometry. We reviewed the mnemonic of SOH, CAH, and TOA to help memorize the sides/angles involved. We also reviewed using the inverse function (arcsin, arctan, arccos). We then went through practice problems using the trig functions to solve for a missing side or angle.   Overall, she did very well. Once she seemed to have a good understanding of how to set up the problems and what exactly the trig functions are used for, she did great.

Tutoring review by Karen in Sunnyvale, CA
First, I checked three pages of math homework. The student missed five problems. We discussed each problem, and she corrected each. Next, I gave her a practice test on her 20 spelling words. She missed 5. I had her to write each word 5 times saying each syllable as she wrote the word to help her remember the spelling by syllable and sound. I gave her a second practice test. She spelled all words correctly. Last, we did the multiplication flash cards. She did much better.

She has more difficulty in the following area: writing equations of lines from looking at a graph.  Overall, she has improved a lot

Tutoring review by Danielle in Sunnyvale, CA
Today we reviewed homework that I gave my client for the week. We focused on her rereading of what she wrote to make sure it made sense and it was clear. We started to work on inferencing, which is just another way of saying higher order thinking and questioning. I brought over tons of books on her level and the level I would like for her to be on during the summer before she gets back to school. I chose a book that we will read together so I can ask her questions and have her start asking questions. The first session of this technique went pretty well. She chose the book she would like to read on her own, and she has to make up two questions on her own about the book. Overall my client is making good progress.
