I am a biomedical engineering student, going into my 4th year, at the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities. Engineering involves a great deal of math and science, thus I offer tutoring for all ages of math as well as basic chemistry and physics. I think math is such an essential aspect of everyone's education, and a basic understanding of numbers can be applicable in everyday life. As a young student, I remember math having a bad reputation among other students, and I want to change that. Students need to develop a positive association with numbers at a young age so they can be more successful in the future. I have previously tutored elementary aged children in basic mathematics, and I am currently employed at a tutor center focused on math. At the center, I work with students of all ages from preschool to college. In schools, math class is very dependent on memorization which I believe is more harmful than helpful. Students really need a strong understanding of numbers in order to progress. I have learned many mental strategies myself that will help students advance. Outside of school and work, I love to spend time on the lakes in MN, travel, golfing, playing tennis, and spending time with my friends and family.

I graduated from Columbia with a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering. My love of learning has sparked my involvement in biology and astrophysics research as well as publishing art and writing. I am bilingual; I grew up speaking both English and Spanish at home. My engineering background has given me a firm grasp on STEM subjects. I am also passionate about the humanities because they enrich our lives with meaning and purpose. In college, I was part of the Undergraduate Recruitment Committee and a trained tour guide. I am excited about helping students present their best selves in the admissions process and finding the right fit in a school.

I am a current Senior at Macalester College majoring in Economics with a minor in Geography. I started tutoring in high school through the honors society. Since I've moved to the Twin Cities I have tutored many students in helping them to achieve state standards. I also enjoy tutoring for standardized tests, specifically the ACTs. I think that having a great tutor can make such a difference in someone's life. Education is so important and having a tutor there to assist you in all your learning goals can make such a difference for a scholar. Outside of tutoring, I love to play soccer, run, play cricket, cook and learn about urban history. I make our tutoring sessions personal and fun to make sure that the scholar is interested in learning and, more importantly, enjoying learning.

Elementary School English Tutor • +10 Subjects
I am a student at the University of Delaware majoring in Elementary Education with a concentration in Teaching English as a Second Language and a minor in Disability Studies. Prior to college, I tutored 3rd graders of varying socioeconomic backgrounds in ELA and math. For five years, I led whole-class and one-on-one lessons for 4th and 5th graders at my local synagogue. During the summers, I've been a camp counselor for kindergarteners, 1st graders, and 2nd graders. I have also tutored middle school students in math and ELA. While I can tutor a broad range of subjects for elementary school students, I have the most experience with reading, writing, and math. Math can be a difficult subject for many students, but it is fun to work together to develop new skills and work our way through problems. I believe every student deserves to learn in a way that is right for them, and I try to work with students to find out how they learn best. In my spare time, I enjoy playing the piano and guitar and painting.

I graduated summa cum laude from Emerson College, where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre Studies and a minor in Writing, Literature, and Publishing. While in college in Boston, I was struck by a quote on the side of the Boston Public Library: "The Commonwealth requires the education of the people as the safeguard of order and liberty." This statement gives me great inspiration as I work with my students. As a tutor, I have worked with students from ages 5 to 25. I tutor many academic subjects, but my favorites are always History, Social Science, English, and Literature. I love these subjects because I often feel they are our greatest keys to understanding why the world behaves as it does. I have taught numerous forms of standardized tests for admittance to high schools and colleges. It is not uncommon for my students to see significant increases in math, reading, and writing sections of these tests. I always find that the best tutoring results come from keeping sessions as fun and engaging as possible while still covering the material. When not tutoring, I teach performance classes in subjects like magic, comedy, and balloon sculpting. When not teaching, I enjoy reading, hiking, travel, and video games.
