I am a junior studying Writing for Screen and Television at the University of Southern California's School of Cinematic Arts. For the past two spring semesters I worked as a CollegeSpring Mentor, tutoring Green Dot Charter high school juniors for the SAT and teaching them predatory skills for college. In addition to my experience tutoring for the SAT, as a screenwriting major I most enjoy teaching my favorite subject, English. I love showing students the power language endows upon them to communicate their ideas and beliefs with others. I believe every student deserves the chance to succeed and to try to capitalize on their strengths while encouraging them to improve in areas they may traditionally find challenging. Endowing a student with confidence in themselves through patience and support is the best way not only to improve academic performance, but also transform them into lifelong learners. I try to share not only my passion for knowledge with students, but also my love of sports (football, baseball, and softball), action films, and global affairs. Seeing students not only improve academically but also show improved confidence and happiness is the most rewarding part of my job.

I received my Bachelor's degree in Psychology at UC Davis, and I am currently a Master's student at California State San Marcos studying Experimental Psychology. My research involves studying peptide influences on maternal behavior in mice, specifically peptides related to stress and alertness. I have a passion for statistics and research methods. My goals for the future involves getting a Ph. D. in behavioral neuroscience and eventually working as a researcher and/or college professor. Through the Master's program, I have had much experience working with undergraduate students helping them with statistical procedures and planning research proposals. I am also currently teaching a section of an Introductory Psychology class at CSU San Marcos. My favorite areas in which to tutor would hands down be statistics and research methods. As a tutor, I value the interaction with students, as I love to be a mentor and provide guidance in both academics and life management strategies. I have many other interests outside of academia, including rock climbing, juggling (I can juggle 7 balls), playing guitar and piano, snowboarding, riding my road bike, going on hikes, and playing board games.

I graduated from the University of California Santa Cruz with a degree in Molecular, Cell and Developmental Biology. Even though my favorite subjects are in the sciences (Biology and Anatomy), I also like to help with basic skills like reading and math through the Algebra concepts. Tutoring is one of the things that I love to do. Watching a student have that "light bulb" moment is very fulfilling. I have had the privilege of working with students of all ages to help them improve their skills, and achieve success in their studies. In my free time, when I'm not volunteering with different organizations, I enjoy outdoor activities like golf, tennis and hiking.

In particular, I enjoy helping students discover a fondness for math and science, two fields that can be intimidating. I love balancing these more technical subjects with subjects that are more "fun" or creative, such as language or art. When I'm not working, I enjoy traveling, cooking, singing, working out, and reading.

I have tutored elementary students for almost a year and enjoy teaching study skills techniques. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite subjects to tutor are reading and writing because I enjoy doing both. I have always enjoyed school and feel that education is one of the most important things we can obtain in life. I hope to be able to share my appreciation for education with my students so that they may know from a young age how important it is. At Tufts I pursued a degree in Biochemistry and Art History, graduating Magna Cum Laude. I will be pursuing a medical degree in the near future. During my time at Tufts, I spent three years teaching science to students of many ages as part of multiple outreach programs. My teaching experience covered topics from elementary chemistry demonstration to genetic research with high schoolers. While I enjoy tutoring a number of subjects, I am especially fond of science and math. My goal as a tutor is often to not only teach a subject, but get a student involved with a subject - that is, excited about it. I find students can make the biggest improvements when they feel personally engaged in the subject. Outside of academics I like bikes, coffee, and Kurt Vonnegut.
