What's the price for my student to work with a private tutor in Seattle?

The price of working with an experienced tutor in Seattle varies based on several factors, including what you or your student would like to review, where you live, how often you want to meet your instructor, and so on. For example, you may pay a different hourly rate to meet your instructor every Monday night for an entire semester than you would for a review session right before an exam.

Likewise, tutoring for a student learning how to write a story with a beginning, middle, and end at Decatur Elementary School would be a different price than tutoring for a student at a school like the University of Washington who needs help editing a research paper.

Who you review alongside can also influence what you pay. If you opt for 1-on-1 sessions, your instructor can focus on your specific areas of opportunity to help you overcome any learning obstacles that arise. If you invite a few of your classmates to join you, your instructor can foster a collaborative learning environment where everybody helps each other out. Both setups are powerful educational tools, and Varsity Tutors also provides affordable small group classes to supplement any tutoring plan.

A private teacher in Seattle can slow things down to ensure that students have the foundation necessary to tackle more challenging concepts or provide more detail on an intriguing subject to inspire high-achievers to soar. If you would like more information on private instruction, including a quote for the services that interest you, please reach out to our Educational Directors.

Where can I get assistance in finding a private tutor in Seattle?

Locating your own tutor in Seattle can be a headache, but luckily the Educational Directors at Varsity Tutors will handle all of the logistics for you. Simply tell us what you want to review and the qualifications you're looking for in a private tutor, and we'll leverage our database of more than 40,000 independent tutors to find you a great fit for your academic and scheduling needs.

If you are an aural learner, we will connect you with a tutor who understands how to use repetition to further your understanding of the Scientific Method or the global impacts of the American Revolution. If you're a visual learner, we'll match you with a tutor who can provide infographics and other visual aids to help you understand the Law of Supply and Demand. If you are a hands-on learner who prefers doing something to reading about it, we'll find you a tutor who can find innovative ways to help you experience academic concepts. Your needs will always come first.

We will even find you a private teacher in Seattle who you can study alongside without ever leaving home. Our Live Learning Platform is mobile-friendly software designed to help busy students like you review wherever would be most convenient. If you're leery of remote learning, you should know that our platform includes features like integrated practice problems to facilitate the same type of collaboration you would expect in-person. Sessions are also recorded automatically, so it's easy to monitor your student's progress.

Are there different styles of tutoring offered in Seattle?

Our network of tutors includes experts in more than 3,000 topics, allowing us to connect students of all ages and ability levels with the support they need to reach for their full potential. If you are taking pre-calculus at a local school such as Garfield High School, your instructor can provide additional practice problems to help you feel more confident in class.

If your student needs help distinguishing between adjectives and adverbs, we'll find you an English tutor who can help them out.

A Seattle tutor can also help you prepare for standardized tests. If your student is taking a Smarter Balanced assessment or the WCAS, we'll find you a test prep expert who can focus on the topics most likely to appear on each exam. We will also find you help with national exams like the SAT, GRE, LSAT, and professional certifications such as FINRA's Series 7 exam. The bottom line is: if you want to study it, we will refer you to a tutor who knows all about it.

A Seattle tutor can even help you homeschool the student in your life. For example, your instructor can show you how to grade assignments objectively so you have a realistic sense of your student's progress. Signing up with us also grants you access to our Learning Lab, a collection of self-study resources designed to make homeschooling as easy as possible. For instance, you get computer-based assessments designed by experts to pinpoint your student's specific areas of opportunity and instructional videos to supplement your lesson plans. Homeschooling is hard, but you can succeed with the right supports in place.

What is the selection process for tutors in Seattle and how does it work?

The phrase "tutor in Seattle" can mean virtually anything, but Varsity Tutors uses an extensive vetting process that lets you trust you are working with a truly gifted instructor. We begin by reviewing each candidate's academic expertise.

Then, we make sure that each prospective instructor is available when they claim to be. We round out the basics by ensuring that each candidate possesses superlative communication and teaching skills.

Other companies might stop there, but we're just getting started. We also look for instructors with exceptional personalities that make it easier for students to forge a connection with their tutor. Students are more likely to ask for help if they feel that they can trust their instructor. Most importantly, we look for instructors who understand how to craft sessions around a pupil's unique needs to improve their study efficiency.

Whether you need help with a physics class at Seattle Preparatory School or you're looking for somebody who can share active reading tips with your student, a private tutor in Seattle is the solution you've been looking for. Please contact Varsity Tutors online or by phone today to learn more about how easy it can be to get started!

Session Summaries by Tutors

Tutoring review by Tim in Santa Clara, CA
The student had two tests this week to prepare for - Biology and English. Since we studied for biology fairly extensively last week, and because he felt much better about his readiness for his bio test than his English test, we reviewed English with our time. His test was on Greek heroes. We spent most of our session committing to memory who each god was, and what their symbol and animal counterpart are. By the end he had it down, but there will be much more than just this information on his test. Therefore, I told him that he will need to review his notes concerning the hero stories, skim and study his book, and review what we had studied in our time (the gods) before taking his test. I feel like he will do great on his bio test, but may struggle with English.

SAT Math.  The student completed the 3 math sections on practice test 1.  We went over all of the problems she skipped or got wrong and figured out how to solve them.  We also talked about a few general strategies for math, questions to skip, etc.  She will do 3 more math sections in practice test 2 before out next meeting on Tuesday.

I timed the student as he completed the English portion and then went over the problems he missed once he finished. I plan to send him some strategies for English to go over and will continue to encourage him to stay focused and continue to complete problems. That will help him build confidence and endurance by test time.

Tutoring review by Okwudili in Santa Clara, CA
She is currently working with fractions, but has a pretty good understanding of what is being taught in class. We went through her previous and current homework. Once she proved she understood it, we moved on. If she didn't understand a part of it we worked it out together and tried extra problems as practice.

Tutoring review by Melanie in Santa Clara, CA
We began with math right away. I had the student take notes on the basics and we discussed them along the way.  We practiced numerous skills that we had gone over and he got every problem correct!  We then used the computer to practice even more algebra.  We ended our session by going over what we had discussed and decided that we will continue to work on mathematics as he feels that is the subject where he can improve the most. Great session!
