Tutoring review by Terry in Pacific, WA
The student reported that although she had felt prepared for test on special triangles, she did not get the outcome she had hoped for. She will get this test back and bring to session to review what happened. She said it was 35 questions to do in 30 minutes and that she had felt rushed. She says this is typical pacing for the class. She asked to review tonight's homework, which was on applying definitions of sine, cosine, tangent. Her understanding of the use of the definitions is solid enough but she showed several misunderstandings of basic algebra (that we can't add whole numbers and radicals, that we carry out multiplication of expression before subtracting a value from both sides, and how to simplify 5 square root of 3 over 10) that she needs to work on. We discussed all errors as they come up. The student's mother would also like an ongoing probing of prior geometry concepts. We used a few items from practice sets to begin this. The student suggested that her next topic in class will be transformations, so we will work on this as well.

We practiced many problems like this and the student made significant progress in that area. We additionally reviewed how to find the components of vectors and how to find the distance from a point to a line using a given formula.
