Tutoring review by Meg in Lincoln, CA
We took notes on the student's current social studies unit. I helped with reading while she wrote down important places, people, and vocab terms. We also reviewed the math packet she had been working in to ensure she understood all of what she had been doing.

Tutoring review by Stephen in Lincoln, CA
This session the student and I reviewed his homework that included factoring polynomials and factoring perfect squares. After doing a few examples, he quickly understood the method to solve the problems and proceeded to complete the assignment with little difficulty. At the end of our previous session I assigned him a few practice word problems. We went through them together and I highlighted the importance of drawing a picture to get a better understanding of the problems. He learns quickly when shown a logical approach to solving problems, but struggles with word problems. Long word problems are intimidating to him and sometimes it isn't clear what exactly the question is asking. In future session we will work on more word problems so he can improve in this area.

The student has an exam tomorrow, so we had a session today to help prepare for that. I helped her with the approaches to the problems and answered all her questions. We worked on a lot of practice problems and covered everything for her exam tomorrow.

Tutoring review by Kyle in Lincoln, CA
This was our first session, so a lot of it was getting a feel for both of the students by working through problems. We covered differentiation of logarithmic functions and discussed the different methods of completing the process (e.g. my route is different from their teacher's). The two had different points of weakness, but they understood the material well when it was explained. Recalling what they learned later in the lesson was a challenge at times though. The focus will be hammering home the different concepts, so they can more readily apply them. We also discussed uses of differentiation, so they could understand why it's used. So far, it had been something they did without really knowing its purpose. We will meet again tomorrow, so I will have a stronger idea of how to approach these sessions in the near future.

Tutoring review by Adam in Lincoln, CA
We looked at an assigned related rates problem and then began some review of some of the earlier concepts from this semester. We expanded on the student's knowledge of the natural log and natural exponent and covered some limits and various examples of those. We touched on antiderivatives a little bit and how that applies to the kinematic equations of physics. We finished with 5 minutes or so left, so I told her the story of how Einstein revolutionized physics with his theory of relativity. I think we had a great session overall.
