I engaged the student in a Math activity, which was actually problems from a previous lesson of his. He really hadn't seen them before, so we engaged in a race to see who could finish them first. It was slow moving as no student, myself included, ever takes to logarithms immediately. After playing around with them for a while, their use and meaning started to become clear. As with anything difficult, practice is all the student needs at this point in time.
