The student and I worked on setting up mathematical expressions. He breezed through that. He took majority of the time on completing the long review problems. We also reviewed parabolic transformations. He was able to understand it very thoroughly.

Tutoring review by Ralph in Lawndale, CA
I engaged the student in a Math activity, which was actually problems from a previous lesson of his. He really hadn't seen them before, so we engaged in a race to see who could finish them first. I gave him the choice of odd or even problems. He picked even and we began. From that point on, he was hooked. He couldn't do them quick enough, and really did well with his math calculations. After that we started to talk about a story that I wanted him to tell. He picked a story about the pickles that his dad made, and how much he liked them. The story was good. Then I asked him to describe how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. It's an old exercise, but it got him thinking about story order.

Today, we worked on the student's science homework and continued to read her chapter book. She was very curious about science, and we had a great discussion of hybrid, dominant, and recessive traits and the way genes interact to express these traits.

The student was having some trouble with parallel lines and transversals. After explaining the idea and doing practice questions, he's got a handle on the concept. Additionally, we spent time practicing adding and subtracting numbers and solving simple algebraic equations.

Tutoring review by Sean in Lawndale, CA
This session we started off learning about the geometric series, its properties, and form. We then moved on to logarithms and how to use them. It was slow moving as no student, myself included, ever takes to logarithms immediately. After playing around with them for a while, their use and meaning started to become clear. As with anything difficult, practice is all the student needs at this point in time.
