The student and I worked on various word problems. The student struggles with doing work in his head, which usually  is incorrect. We worked on breaking down the problem into parts, and writing how he got the  answers in complete sentences.

Tutoring review by Rudy in Laguna Niguel, CA
The student wanted to go over the next chapter in his textbook which covered oxidation-reduction reactions. It touched on topics such as determining the oxidized and reduced molecules, oxidizing/reducing agents, oxidation numbers, creating half reactions, and using that information in drawing/understanding batteries. Overall, the student did very well. Again, it was just translating several terms for him, but it is clear that he picks up this material very well.

Tutoring review by Cydnee in Laguna Niguel, CA
The student is a high school senior planning to take the ACT test for second time. She initially scored in the mid-range and would like to improve her overall score about 5 points in order to be competitive in college admissions. Since we only have 2 sessions together, our first session was all about English - grammar, rhetoric, and sentence structure. We went over several skills and tricks that she could use to identify the types of questions asked on the test and how to master them. Towards the end of the session, she completed 30 practice questions (timed) and I graded the answers. Because the session was cut short, we ran out of time to go over the questions that were missed; however, they will be discussed on Thursday. Thursday's session will also include a crash course on the ACT Reading and Writing sections.
