Today the student and I completed a rigorous review of multiplication and division facts as well as a review of the Cartesian Coordinate Point system. She and I will continue review of the multiplication reinforcement each session, and she has seen significant improvement already. She has shown mastery of the Cartesian Coordinate System. We finished by revising her essay for her Grammar class. She is always eager to learn and excellent to work with.

Tutoring review by Katrina in Diamond Bar, CA
We worked through 3 homework problems. The first was a review of the concept of monopoly, and we talked about the difference between monopolies and competitive companies when drawing a supply (marginal cost) and demand (average revenue) graph, and how that affects the profit. The next question covered externalities, and we talked about how an externality shifts the supply in or outward depending on if it is negative or positive, and how to do this algebraically. Finally, we did a question about public goods, and learned about how to use vertical or horizontal summation to add individuals' demand curves together to get the optimal public or privately provided quantities.

Tutoring review by Kate in Diamond Bar, CA
The student's session went much better this evening. He was prepared to study chapters 4 and 5. Since he didn't have a specific test devoted to chapter 4, we used the textbook. We specifically reviewed the major differences between popular and folk culture. I was pleased that he was able to consistently provide relevant examples for his answers. It was evident that even he was excited about the progress that he had made thus far. For chapter 5, I pulled a random selection of questions from his test. He did very well, and mostly missed questions that were very wordy. I'm sure that he will do better when he can read the question for himself more slowly. We talked about test strategy as we finished the session. I know that he is confident in the material.

Tutoring review by Billie in Diamond Bar, CA
The student and I worked on analogies. We spoke about what to do before the test, like relax the night before, eat breakfast, and take snacks. We came up with a plan which we were working on about taking the test. Math - answer ones you know and are easy to calculate so you don't make math errors on the first pass. Then go back. Same with verbal. If you can narrow it to two, then guess. Try to do the ones you know first and be careful about bubbling the correct answer.
