Tutoring review by Johnita in Central City, UT
He completed about half of his math assignment, so we spent some time reviewing how to calculate the slope of a line and the relationship between the slopes of parallel and perpendicular lines, then we moved on to section 2.4 on writing equations in slope-intercept form. We didn't have much time to work on the new section before beginning physics, so I anticipate that we will need some more time going over this section during our next session. In physics, we briefly reviewed the first half of chapter four on acceleration then went through the rest of the chapter and talked about calculating distance covered in free fall and motion time graphs. He continues to do well in physics and remembered everything from our last session very well.

Tutoring review by Juliana in Central City, UT
The student was given a practice AP exam by his teacher to work through. Today we started looking through the multiple choice section. I had the student read the question and then tell me how to work through it. For the most part he is doing well. We did have to review some details from derivatives, but not much. There are some problems which the student cannot answer yet because his class has not covered the material (e.g. using trapezoidal approximation). For now we are skipping those problems and going through the problems that the student does know how to solve. I am also having him focus in on the integral problems to help us prepare for his final in May. Generally the student did well today.

On Monday, the student and I first reviewed his homework (which I was really impressed by!). He had read and was able to answer questions on this book and knew the main character. We then went into a phonic lesson on contractions. We also talked about some words he would see during chapter 1 and 2 in our new book. We started reading Magic Tree House book number 23. On Wednesday I am hoping to read chapter 3 and 4. He had to answer 4 comprehension questions about chapter 1 for homework.

The student and I discussed the importance of working slowly and systematically on congruent triangle proofs. I informed him that order is critically important where triangle ABC is not the same as triangle BAC.

During this session we worked on characteristics of a function such as zeros, y-intercepts, domain, asymptotes, and end behavior of functions. We also used the derivatives to find the local extrema of functions. We also discussed the symmetry of functions when they were even, odd, and neither even or odd.

Tutoring review by Jimmy in Central City, UT
We covered different types of graphs and tables (bar, histogram, circle, scatter-plots). We also reviewed for the student's upcoming test. He was not struggling with anything. He was positive towards the material that was reviewed. I told him to take time and go back and check his answers after he finishes the test. He scored a 96 on his quiz, and is doing really well. He has improved immensely. He shouldn't have any trouble on his test and he is on track with the material he is learning.
