I am a graduate of Washington University in St. Louis. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Philosophy-Neuroscience-Psychology with a concentration in cognitive neuroscience and also minored in music with a specialty in piano performance. After graduating, I completed two years of dedicated immunology research in a pediatrics - infectious diseases laboratory. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about helping students achieve their potential on standardized tests. I want to help not only with students' short-term goals but also more distant trajectories and life goals. In my spare time, I enjoy playing music, reading, practicing yoga, running, and learning new tricks in the kitchen. I look forward to working with you!

Pre-Algebra Tutor • +30 Subjects

I am a graduate of Wayne State University in Detroit, Michigan, where I completed my Ph.D. program in Physics. I was doing research in physics for many years, but it always comes a time when you feel you must pass your knowledge to other people, especially those of new generation. So, I started teaching and tutoring then. Originally I was teaching Conceptual, Algebra-Based and Calculus-Based Physics courses at different colleges and universities. Yet, while teaching these courses, I was also unofficially "tutoring" the students during my office hours when they were coming with their concerns and confusions. Officially, my tutoring started in January 2017, when I was offered to tutor at Science Learning Center of Stark State College in North Canton, Ohio. One thing I like in tutoring is the opportunity to work with students individually and use personal approaches to direct them to the success in their studies, rather than teaching an "average student" standing at a whiteboard or a projector screen. I am tutoring College, University and AP Physics courses, also I am able to tutor algebra/trigonometry and calculus. Rather that just giving the students the equations to solve the desired problems, I prefer to make the students work themselves, concentrating myself in directing them whenever it is necessary and explaining the subtle points of the confusing material studied. During the tests the students are left with their task alone with no help form anyone, and my goal is to make them able to deal with such tasks successfully. Hobbies: art, books, writing, reading, music

I am a high school math teacher with a passion for demonstrating the practical use of math outside of the classroom. I pride myself in teaching critical thinking and decision making skills that cultivate a real world experience in my classroom to best prepare students for life after academia. I have an undergraduate and master's degree in engineering, and changed career paths into teaching because of my love for inspiring and mentoring kids. I am pursuing a graduate degree in education administration with the goal of becoming a principal so I can build stronger urban schools with better resources and implement instructional strategies geared towards disadvantaged youth.

I'm from Cincinnati, OH and love spending weekends there with my family. I'm planning on attending doctoral school for a PhD in Neuropsychology after a few years of working and traveling. I fell in love with Italy while studying abroad in Rome and will take any chance I can get to go back! When I'm not working, I enjoy visiting art museums and seeing musicals and plays. I was a peer tutor at Loyola for two years and have been a private tutor for the past year. It has been a very fulfilling experience and a skill I would like to continue developing. It is such a joy for me to see the light of understanding in my students' eyes and be able to track their progress and academic achievements. I love the challenge of catering to each person's learning style and finding what works best for them. Let's learn together and have fun doing it!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across Kent's schools with personalized tutoring support. With 4 schools serving over 1,800 students in the Kent City School District, we work with learners at all grade levels to help them succeed with their specific coursework and Ohio academic standards.

Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to focus on your student's specific gaps while aligning with Ohio's academic standards and curriculum expectations. Whether your student needs support with core subjects like math and English language arts, or specialized help in science and social studies, tutors can tailor their approach to ensure mastery of grade-level standards.

Kent students commonly seek support in mathematics (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts, standardized test preparation, and science. Because tutoring is personalized, tutors work with each student's unique challenges—whether that's building foundational skills, preparing for state assessments, or tackling advanced coursework.

The first session is an opportunity for the tutor to understand your student's learning style, current academic level, and specific goals. They'll assess what's working well and where your student needs support, then create a personalized plan to help them progress. This foundation ensures every session after that is focused and effective.

Varsity Tutors offers flexible tutoring options to fit different family needs and budgets. You can discuss frequency, duration, and focus areas with your matched tutor to create a plan that works for your situation—whether that's intensive test prep, ongoing subject support, or targeted skill-building.

Varsity Tutors connects students with expert tutors who have strong subject knowledge and teaching experience. Tutors are vetted professionals with backgrounds in education, and many have specialized training in their subject areas. Your student will be matched with someone well-suited to their specific needs and learning style.

Many students see noticeable progress within the first few weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the student's starting point and goals. Regular, focused 1-on-1 instruction accelerates learning compared to classroom settings alone, and your tutor will track progress and adjust strategies as needed to keep your student moving forward.

Getting started is simple—tell us about your student's needs and goals, and we'll match them with a tutor who's the right fit. Once connected, you'll work together to schedule sessions and create a personalized learning plan. Most students can begin tutoring within days of being matched.
