I am a sophomore at Johns Hopkins University studying Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering. I tutor many STEM subjects, SAT/ACT prep, and AP/IB classes! In the years past, I've mentored two robotics teams and I have experience tutoring at my school and in my neighborhood. I deeply believe that an intuitive understanding of educational content is crucial to success, and I implement this philosophy by teaching problem-solving techniques and strategies in addition to the material. In my free time, I love to read, paint, crochet, and watch TV shows. :)

I am an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, working towards a pre-med double major in Psychology and Biology (with a specialization in Neuroscience). Beginning in my early teens, I began working and volunteering as a tutor in a variety of environments: I began as a volunteer at a summer program for underprivileged children at the Learning and Tutoring Center of East Austin, and since I have worked as a private elementary school tutor, a private SAT-prep tutor, and a preschool tutor for the Neighborhood Schools Program in South Side Chicago. I have taken, and succeeded in, a broad range of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, and am familiar with the latest formats, question varieties, and scoring guidelines of these standardized tests, along with the SAT. My teaching philosophy is to go beyond "teaching to the test". Although test-taking skills are crucial for any assessment, I believe the most valuable thing a tutor can do is to enhance and help develop conceptual understanding in our clients. I believe that once a student understands something at the conceptual level, he or she will be much better prepared for the topic, not only in the specific test we are preparing for, but anywhere else it may come up. Memorizing words or equations might help somebody in the short term, but understanding why that word means what it means, or what an equation is actually depicting is worth the extra effort. Besides test-prep I think I can be a great help in writing and editing, as I have experience in everything from short, timed essays such as the SAT essay, to college essays, to research papers such as the IB Extended Essay. I am fully fluent in Spanish for anyone who wishes to communicate in or practice the language.

Also, I am a student myself, so I know and understand the struggles of being a student. Do not worry though! I have tutored countless students ranging from grades 1-12. I have tutored middle school students for the past three years and recently began tutoring a few high school students for the SAT exam. I am a licensed physician from Florida who is currently changing careers. I graduated from the University of Pennsylvania in 2009 and have extensive tutoring and editing experience. While a student, I became a certified writing tutor through the Critical Writing Department. Since I completed my writing requirement at the University prior to matriculating, I was the first freshman tutor to be accepted into this selective program. The tutoring program involved a preliminary peer-tutor training course prior to beginning tutoring, in order to certify that I had the appropriate background to provide professional feedback to fellow students on their literary works and projects. After graduation, I worked for a full-service learning center where I created and implemented high school lesson plans for home-schooled students, provided academic support for students ranging in ages from 8 to 20 years old, and taught group and individual standardized testing preparation classes. I have also assisted students with application essays for various undergraduate and graduate programs.

I am currently a M. Eng. mechanical engineering graduate student at the University of California Berkeley. I completed my undergraduate degree the University of Illinois at Chicago, majoring in bioengineering. I have been tutoring other students since high school and also have experience teaching engineering in a classroom setting. I am an Environmental Biology major and Writing minor. Using my two interests, I find it easiest to help students learn complicated topics by being able to explain them simply and in your own words. I am Ankit Jajoo. I am enrolled in Duke University Class of 2022 studying neuroscience and computer science. STEM is my number one passion, while history is my number one interest. Humanities and STEM not only coexist, but work together often in life. While STEM provides the foundation for the future, humanities contributes to how it is used to advance humanity as a whole. I love biology, chemistry, and computers. It is so cool to see how all these tiny minute parts of the world interact to create you, me, and everything we touch. On the other hand, history is cool to see how societies interacted to create the present world. The past is never separate from us, but always influencing everything from the various countries to cities to the tiny villages all over the world. The world is a combination of all of this and it is my passion to understand the world. Other than just about education and information, I love teaching other people about stuff. I enjoy teaching all my friends some stuff, in return they teach me other stuff. Contrary to popular opinion, teaching is a two way street. I've learned a tremendous amount from students and I hope they learned a similar amount from me. Tutoring students in a field I enjoy such as STEM or history is a dream come true.

I am a proud graduate of Iowa State University where I studied to receive my Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. After completing this degree I journeyed to the United Kingdom in order to obtain my Master of Science in Math and Finance. I spent the last year living in Colchester and studying at the University of Essex. Now, I have returned to the United States and am ready to share my knowledge from the world of Mathematics! I feel confident in virtually all areas of Math, but my favorite subsets include Linear Algebra and Graph Theory. These topics were at the forefront of my dissertation along with group theory while at the University of Essex. I am proud to say that the eleven-year-old Vietnamese girl and boy that I tutored for 5 years are both attending Medical school. In addition, I am proud to say that I speak, write and read in French, English, Spanish, Haitian Creole and Italian proficiently. Whenever I tell people that I speak French, they often assume that it is not my mother tongue language because I have no accent in English. I am a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a focus in Cultural Anthropology and Minor in History. Prior to attending UCLA, I received an Associate of Arts in Communications Studies from Skyline College in San Bruno, California. In June 2018, after graduation from UCLA, I moved to Miami, Florida where I volunteered with the Americorps VISTA program, serving as the PeaceJam Coordinator at Miami Dade College. After my year of service, I stayed in Miami where I became a Middle School Language Arts teacher with Miami Dade County Public Schools. While I am an English teacher, and tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about History, Sociology, and of course Cultural Anthropology. However, I love teaching Language Arts as I believe literacy and teaching students to express themselves through written communication is imperative to success in the competitive academic and professional context they are entering. One responsibility I was given this year is helping my middle school students at Horace Mann Middle School prepare for the Florida State Assessment (FSA). In my experience helping struggling students prepare for this exam, we always seem to have the most fun dissecting prompts and excerpts while prepping for the reading and writing portions of the FSA. I am a firm proponent of education, especially in the humanities and social sciences believing these to be necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. I am currently graduating from School for Advanced Studies high school and Miami Dade College with my Associates in Art both simultaneously. I am going to continue my education at Carnegie Mellon University. I tutor my peers and anyone that needs help in my family.
