I am currently a M. Eng. mechanical engineering graduate student at the University of California Berkeley. I completed my undergraduate degree the University of Illinois at Chicago, majoring in bioengineering. I have been tutoring other students since high school and also have experience teaching engineering in a classroom setting. I especially enjoy teaching subjects that have a stigma for being difficult or unattainable and strive to change that perception. My strengths are math, science and standardized test preparation.

I am an Environmental Biology major and Writing minor. Using my two interests, I find it easiest to help students learn complicated topics by being able to explain them simply and in your own words. I find that this way of learning is the best way to gain a full understanding. Difficult problems often have multiple ways of solving them. Figuring out the best way for each student to solve a problem can make anyone successful. In the near future I plan on attending medical school, and I look forward to helping other students be able to succeed in subjects that I feel passionate about.
I am a graduate of the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Anthropology with a focus in Cultural Anthropology and Minor in History. Prior to attending UCLA, I received an Associate of Arts in Communications Studies from Skyline College in San Bruno, California. In June 2018, after graduation from UCLA, I moved to Miami, Florida where I volunteered with the Americorps VISTA program, serving as the PeaceJam Coordinator at Miami Dade College. After my year of service, I stayed in Miami where I became a Middle School Language Arts teacher with Miami Dade County Public Schools. While I am an English teacher, and tutor a wide range of subjects, I am most passionate about History, Sociology, and of course Cultural Anthropology. However, I love teaching Language Arts as I believe literacy and teaching students to express themselves through written communication is imperative to success in the competitive academic and professional context they are entering. One responsibility I was given this year is helping my middle school students at Horace Mann Middle School prepare for the Florida State Assessment (FSA). In my experience helping struggling students prepare for this exam, we always seem to have the most fun dissecting prompts and excerpts while prepping for the reading and writing portions of the FSA. I am a firm proponent of education, especially in the humanities and social sciences believing these to be necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading novels, historical texts, or anything that pertains to interesting aspects of human culture. For fun, I enjoy traveling (both domestic and international), exploring Miami, and enjoying a nice cup of coffee.
I am so happy that you have taken the initiative to get extra help with your learning goals. Regardless of your academic level or academic goals, I know that I can help you. Every learner is different and that is why I cater my teaching methods to suite your style of learning. I am an effective and results-driven communicator and I strive to make your strengths even stronger while also making your weaknesses, well, weaker! Let me know how I can help you!
I am currently graduating from School for Advanced Studies high school and Miami Dade College with my Associates in Art both simultaneously. I am going to continue my education at Carnegie Mellon University. I tutor my peers and anyone that needs help in my family. I have a pretty wide range of what I can teach because of all the different people that need help. I am also able to teach in different ways to make sure that the student understands and masters the materials given. I tutor in all types of math and am flexible with the type of math students need help with. On my free time I play the French Horn with my school band and hang out with family and friends.
I am a graduate of The University of California, Los Angeles. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Women's Studies with a focus on Public Health. After graduation, I traveled and volunteered in rural Guatemala as an English tutor. I am a firm proponent of education, believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy reading, running, cycling and playing soccer.
I am a Senior at the University of Florida studying Industrial Engineering and Statistics. My areas of expertise include Statistics, High School and College level Math, and Government. I emphasize maintaining trust and steady communication with my students to maintain a healthy and comfortable learning environment. I believe developing micro-goals and positively reinforcing students help them stay motivated and excited.
I am currently studying at St. John’s College for my Bachelor of Arts in the Liberal Arts. St. John’s curriculum follows the Great Books Program which relies on primary sources instead of textbooks. During my time at St. John’s, I have volunteered as a tutor working with middle school students, focusing on Reading, Writing, and Mathematics. I have also tutored students in US history, Government, and World Religions. I have enjoyed tutoring English and Literature the most as I find it very rewarding to help students find material that they not only enjoy, but connect to and use to understand their own lives. In this age, technology has made information freely available to everyone. I think that it is extremely important to teach students how to find, processes and critically reflect on this wealth of resources. I find that it is equally important to nurture a student’s curiosity by demonstrating how lessons taught in the classroom can be applied to their unique passion. My own passions include writing, reading anything from philosophy to comic books, and playing video games.
I am a graduate of Brown University with a Bachelors Degree in Biology and Yale University with a Masters in Public Health. I also hold a Level 5 certification in TEFL. I am passionate about working with children and students of all ages to assist them in achieving their highest potential. My favorite subjects to teach are phonics, reading, science and math. My approach is to meet the students where they are at in their studies and make their learning experience fun, interactive, engaging and exciting. Outside of teaching, I enjoy traveling around the world, rowing, spending time with family and friends and gourmet cooking,
I am a graduate of Indiana University Bloomington. I received my Bachelor of Arts in Slavic and East European Languages and Cultures with a focus on Russian, Russian Literature, and International Relations. Since graduating, I have worked at a YMCA Learning Center as a Preschool Teacher Assistant, camp counselor, after-school counselor, art program leader and childcare provider for all ages. I tutored children (K-8) in the after-school program in all subjects, overseeing study time and assisting students with homework. I also worked as a data analyst for the Data Recognition Corporation: reading, assessing and scoring standardized tests in a variety of subjects for grades K-12. I worked on WIDA projects where I evaluated and scored English proficiency tests (verbal and written) for multilingual learners. As a WIDA analyst, I gained insight into the national system of standardized testing. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am especially interested in Literature, Language, History and Philosophy. I am passionate about teaching and about learning, and I firmly believe that the pursuit of knowledge is lifelong.
I am a graduate of Florida International University. I received my Bachelor's of Science in Biology with a minor in Chemistry. I am currently working towards getting my Bachelor's in Nursing. I have always enjoyed helping and watching people learn concepts that they were previously having trouble with. For the past four years, I have tutored in subjects such as Biology, Chemistry and Algebra. I was also a Corps Member for City Year, an education focused, nonprofit organization. I served at a middle school, where I was a Mentor and Tutor for numerous students. I understood the impact and importance of education for an individual and also for a community. In teaching and learning, hard work is the key to success. Hard work makes everything attainable. I find that being active relieves stress and keeps the mind clear. This is why I like to run at least three times a week.
I am currently preparing in order to apply for a PhD program in Social Psychology. I can tutor several subjects in the areas of writing, reading, and mathematics, up to early college-level. I can also help with preparation for standardized tests, such as SAT and GRE, which I particularly enjoy. I think academic success depends not only on practice, but, most importantly, on finding the correct approach to learning. Each person, I believe, has a different way of processing information and, as a tutor, it is one of my priorities to help students develop the critical thinking methods problem-solving skills that work best for them. In my spare time, I enjoy reading and writing, watching TV series, and anything related to the game of soccer.
I am a recent University of Miami pre-medical graduate with a B.S. in psychology and a minor in chemistry. I tutor a wide variety of science topics, including chemistry, physics, biology, biochemistry, and psychology. I also tutor pre-algebra and algebra. Since middle school, I have tried many study strategies and incorporated them into my own which has helped me succeed throughout my academic career. I want to share everything I have learned about effective studying with my students so they can succeed in their academics.
I am a biology graduate from the University of Texas at Austin and after having worked for two years, realized I missed the joy of being a student! I am currently studying to take my MCAT in January and look forward to sharing all of my science knowledge through tutoring. I look forward to sharing the tips and tricks that helped me succeed in high school and college.
I am a law student, but I took an unusual route to get there. I used to attend medical school but had a change of heart in my career path. Part of this was due to my political science major (double major with biology) in college as well as a number of Spanish and other courses that I took. Tutoring is something, I feel, that has come naturally to me, even back to my high school days. My goal is to help you learn as much as you can and reach your true potential. I will work hard to make sure that this happens, as long as you put in the work, too! We will work together to tailor your learning experience to your needs.
I'm from Las Vegas, NV. I am currently a junior at the University of Miami majoring in Industrial Engineering with a double minor in Mathematics and Economics. My hobbies include laying by the pool and listening to new music.
I am currently an Ed.M. candidate at Harvard Graduate School of Education. For the past four years, I have been a math tutor for the Tufts Literacy Corps, focusing on arithmetic, algebra, trigonometry and geometry. I have also taught Earth and Space Science at Breakthrough Collaborative, violin at the Tufts Community Music Program, and worked with students from age seven to seventeen.

Frequently Asked Questions
Elementary students in Miami face challenges similar to those across Florida, with reading comprehension and foundational math skills being the most common areas where students need support. Many students struggle with the transition from phonics-based reading to comprehension-focused learning around 3rd grade, while others find multi-step word problems in math overwhelming. With Miami's 18.6:1 student-teacher ratio across the district, classroom teachers often have limited time to provide individualized attention to students who need extra support in these critical areas. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction helps students build confidence and close gaps before they compound in upper grades.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to tailor lessons to a student's learning style, pace, and specific challenges—something that's difficult in a classroom setting. Research on effective learning shows that individualized attention and immediate feedback significantly accelerate progress. For elementary students, this means tutors can identify whether a student struggles with foundational concepts (like place value or phonemic awareness) or simply needs more practice and encouragement. By focusing on the exact skills a student needs to work on, rather than a one-size-fits-all curriculum, students typically see measurable improvement within a few weeks of consistent tutoring.
Varsity Tutors connects you with expert tutors who specialize in elementary subjects and understand Florida's curriculum standards. When you reach out, you'll share details about your student's grade level, specific challenges, and learning goals. Varsity Tutors then matches you with tutors who have experience teaching elementary students and expertise in the areas where your child needs support. You can work with tutors who understand Miami's schools and the expectations across Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach County districts, ensuring instruction aligns with what your student is learning in the classroom.
A typical elementary tutoring session focuses on building skills through a mix of instruction, guided practice, and independent work with support. For younger elementary students (K-2), sessions might emphasize phonics, letter recognition, number sense, and foundational skills. For upper elementary (3-5), tutors typically focus on reading comprehension strategies, multi-digit math operations, writing mechanics, and problem-solving. Sessions are designed to be engaging and age-appropriate, with tutors using a variety of activities and materials to keep students motivated. Most students benefit from 1-2 sessions per week, depending on their needs and goals.
Tutors work directly with you and your student to understand the specific curriculum, pace, and expectations of your child's classroom and school. They can review assignments, tests, and materials from school to ensure tutoring complements classroom instruction rather than duplicate it. This alignment is especially helpful for students preparing for assessments, working through difficult units, or needing extra practice on specific skills their teacher has introduced. By staying connected to what's happening in the classroom, tutors can provide targeted support that immediately reinforces and accelerates what students are learning.
Look for both academic and confidence-based progress: improved grades or test scores, fewer errors on assignments, faster completion of homework, and increased willingness to tackle challenging work independently. In reading, progress might include reading at a higher level or understanding more complex texts. In math, you might notice your student solving multi-step problems without frustration or explaining their thinking more clearly. Progress in elementary tutoring is often visible within 4-6 weeks of consistent sessions. Regular communication with your tutor about specific goals—whether it's mastering multiplication facts, improving reading fluency, or building writing skills—helps ensure both you and the tutor are tracking meaningful progress.
Most elementary students benefit from 1-2 tutoring sessions per week, though the ideal frequency depends on your student's specific needs and goals. Students working to catch up on foundational skills may benefit from 2 sessions per week, while those needing reinforcement of current classroom material often do well with weekly sessions. Consistency matters more than frequency—regular sessions allow tutors to build on previous lessons and help students develop momentum. You can adjust frequency based on how your student is progressing and what's happening in the classroom. Your tutor can recommend a schedule that works best for your student's learning pace and your family's availability.
