I have always appreciated education and the many ways it is relevant to our life. I am a recent college graduate from UC Riverside with a BA in Psychology. Being able to say that I have a college education is a privilege and an honor to me because I feel I am making a difference in my life and my family's life being the first one to graduate from college. Along the way I had many struggles and difficulties being an immigrant to the US. I did not know English or had any friends or family other than my parents and brothers. I worked really hard and good people supported me in my journey. I know how hard getting an education can be and how students can feel overwhelmed with accomplishing their dreams. That is why I would do my best as a Varsity Tutor to influence and help students grow in their journey as productive members of our society. The journey starts from a young age and developing good habits and a positive mind set is valuable from an early age. As a recent grad from the University of California, Santa Barbara, I am passionate about education, personal growth, and lofty goals. My BA in History has left me well-versed in the topics of European and United States history, with a special fondness for the British Empire, World War I and II, and the Cold War. My rigorous studies also ensured that I became confident and well studied in geography, essay and research writing, and analysis of primary and secondary sources. History is my first love, but I plan to continue my studies in the direction of an Earth Science for my Masters in several years. After completing the extremely competitive Southwestern Advantage internship this past summer, during which I worked 80 hours a week selling educational aids and study guides to families, I have been left with a desire to continue positively impacting young people through education.

I am completing my Pre-Health Certificate at Cal State Fullerton with the hopes of applying to medical school. I currently work as a tutor in the College of Natural Science and Mathematics, where I've helped dozens of students in general Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and Organic Chemistry. The student body at CSUF is very diverse, and I am extremely comfortable working with students from a wide variety of backgrounds. Additionally, I'm well versed in preparation for all health professions school exams.In high school, I also tutored extensively in Biology, Mathematics, History, and English. I finished high school with a 4.80 GPA, which put me in the top 1% of my graduating class. I earned outstanding scores on multiple Advanced Placement tests and the SAT. My consistently high levels of academic achievement are due to my dedication and solid study habits, and I know I will be able to impart my passion and dedication to any student I tutor.Before deciding to pursue a career in medicine, I graduated from the Haas School of Business at UC Berkeley and worked in the Transaction Services division of Ernst & Young, a "Big 4" accounting firm. While I no longer work in the business world, I believe this experience has imparted me with a greater level of maturity and perspective than the average college student.

I have worked as a tutor for six years. During this time, I have had the most experience tutoring pre-algebra, algebra, advanced algebra, geometry, Spanish and college-level algebra. I think based on the amount I have tutored and my overall experience, my favorite subject to tutor is math because there is always one, and only one, right answer. Through effective communication and patience, the student is not only able to learn the mathematical process, but also the ability to think analytically. I would say that my tutoring philosophy is based on encouragement and always validating the opinions of the student before steering the student in the right direction. I finished my first year in the classroom by being chosen to be the youngest AP Language teachers in the state and spearhead the program at my school. I built a curriculum tailored to the students needs and interests and was not afraid to tackle difficult subjects head on through literature and writing.My second year, I was also asked to run the theater program at the school. I worked with the students to write an original musical as well as find creative ways for the students to express themselves. I also coached the cross country and track team at the school - teaching leadership, teamwork, and perseverance.I know I can tailor curriculum to your specific needs and interests. Since that time I have tutored several nieces and nephews and found it very rewarding. It was so rewarding I decided to go into this field with my credentials it was no problem and I find it an excellent fit.

Education has allowed me to live and travel all over the country and world. I attended Spelman College in Atlanta, Georgia where I double majored in Economics and Political Science to earn my BA. Upon graduation from college, I joined Teach for America in New York City. I taught middle school math for 5 years - 3 years in the South Bronx and 2 years in East Harlem. In my first two years of teaching I earned a Masters of science in Teaching from Pace University. While teaching, I integrated music, technology, and cooking into the classroom to motivate and inspire my students to develop an understanding of, and passion for mathematics. While teaching, I also began a school store in both of my schools where I used the profits to help fund much needed resources for the schools. My philosophy for working with students is to make their experience, fun, engaging, and meaningful so that they may understand the importance of the concepts that they are learning.After teaching for 5 years I decided I wanted to make more of an impact within communities similar to the ones I worked with. Thus two years ago I returned home to Los Angeles to attend USC's Marshall school of Business. This past summer I graduated from USC with my Master of Business Administration.My favorite subject to tutor is math. Any kind of Math including elementary math, middle school math, and pre algebra.In addition, to loving mathematics, I love music and listen to all types of music.
