I am currently pursuing my Bachelor's Degree in Biology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. I plan to graduate with this degree in June of 2016. I have worked for a few years previously as a private tutor back in my home town. I tutor mostly high school subjects. I am able to tutor in high school chemistry, biology, and US history. I am also able to tutor Biology and US History at the AP level, and the SAT II Biology E/M exam. I am also able to tutor the Math and Science portions of the SAT. My favorite subjects to teach would be the ACT science portion, as well as US History.My tutoring style involves a lot of preparation work as well as review. I believe that the best way for students to learn, and it has helped me as well, is to constantly practice questions in whatever subject they may be studying. This is especially true for science and math subjects. Cramming simply does not work in getting the material to stick with the student. The point of learning is to allow the recollection of material over a medium to long period of time. Cramming only works for the short term, and is not favorable to learning the material well.My hobbies include reading speculative fiction, biking, and music. I have played the viola for the better part of a decade, and enjoy playing in quartets. I also very much enjoy travelling to places out of the country, and learning about other places' heritage.I very much look forward to working with you.

I am a native Mandarin speaker, and I started to tutor Mandarin four years ago when i was still in China. I was trained by a professional and my first student was British. Overcoming their obstacles became a personal victory for me, and I enjoyed meeting with clients one or two days a week and watching them grow in their confidence in math and reading problems. I was born and raised in Iowa. Upon graduating from high school, I enrolled at The University of Iowa where I double majored in Fine Art and Japanese Language and Literature. During my freshman year I was awarded a summer scholarship to study aboard in Tokyo, Japan at ICU. This experience sparked my interest in studying and living abroad in Tokyo, so upon returning after summer abroad I enrolled in another year long study abroad program at Meiji University. After finishing my undergrad, I returned to Tokyo where eI went on to advance my studies by enrolling in a Master's program at Tama Art University. Here I studied Typography. Also while attending school in Japan, I worked part time and eventually full time at an English Language school. Upon finishing my Master's, I decided to stay in Japan and pursue my career there and found my first job at Japan's largest advertising agency Dentsu. About a year later, I was later recruited to join Dentsu's sister company The Goal which is a fashion advertising agency. I spent about 10 years living in Japan before returning back to the United States. I have an excellent understanding of the Japanese Language as well as the culture, traditions and history. I think that one of my strengths is that I am very patient and understanding when it comes to teaching someone something new. I am also very passionate about design, fashion and music.

I then attended Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles where I was part of the Partners in Los Angeles Education (PLACE) Corps. There I earned my Master of Arts in Secondary Education and my California Single Subject Clear Credential with an authorization in social science. I am currently in the process of adding an English authorization to my credential. I will return to Loyola Marymount to work on a second Master's degree in the Fall.I have been in the classroom for almost four years teaching social studies, religion, and English to grades 5 - 12. I have experience at both the high school and middle school levels. I also was previously a coach for the Catholic School's Junior High Academic Decathlon for multiple subjects. I regularly hold tutoring for my students have much experience tutoring a variety of subjects at the middle school level.I am in education because it is a constantly changing field where one can always work on improving one's teaching.
