I'll never forget the first time I tutored a student while I was in college. He was on the verge of failing his Calculus course and thinking about dropping out of Engineering School. I assured him that I had been there before, and that if I could pass Calculus, so could he. I helped him with his pro...

I served in the Peace Corps in Thailand from 2010-2012 where I was an English teacher who worked with children from 4th-10th grade. Previously, I have tutored students in math and English. I am very versatile in the subjects I teach, and I possess a compassionate understanding of what it takes to be a good teacher. There have been times in my life when I was also the struggling student. Therefore, I understand both sides of the equation, and I strive to reach that wonderful moment where they feel as if they 'get it' and feel good about themselves with confidence in their abilities in a particular subject. To me, that is the greatest reward of teaching.

I am a recent graduate of the University of California, Davis with a B.A.S. in Evolution, Ecology, and Biodiversity and Psychology. I love doing research with animals, which is why I interned in several projects during my stay at UCD. Besides my love for nature, I also enjoy math. It is the main subject I tutor in, and I find it very rewarding helping students understand different mathematical concepts. I have had previous experience in this subject with students from all grade levels. I also tutor in conversational Spanish, since I am fluent in Spanish. During my free time I enjoy knitting, reading, bird watching, and learning to play the clarinet (it's never too late).

I am currently a student at Pasadena City College, planning to transfer in 1-2 years. I am pursuing a science degree (I'm considering both Life Sciences and Physical Sciences).I first began tutoring in spring 2014 and immediately fell in love with it; as a college student I myself study with friends/study partners quite frequently. Working with clients feels almost similar to these relaxed and enjoyable - yet highly productive and efficient - study sessions. I find joy in demonstrating to students that these tutoring sessions don't have to feel like tribulation; although I am their tutor, I am also a student just like them so I know how to study (and thus help them study) without burning out.I've tutored students ranging from 3rd grade to high school seniors. For my younger students, I've mainly tutored math fundamentals, Earth Science, writing, and ISEE prep. In addition to tutoring, I've been teaching at an after-school program for exactly one year; this experience gave me the opportunity to teach a class of up to 10 elementary-school kids, developing my ability to attend to various students' needs simultaneously. As a teacher with a more active role, I arranged a curriculum with supplemental topics to complement material being taught to them in school, and as a 3rd-4th grade instructor, I organized many games and "art projects" to familiarize students with the learning material. This job has helped me practice putting together lesson plans based on common core requirements, rather than just using the student's own material. As a tutor, it's not always necessary to supplement the student's schoolwork with additional material, but if appropriate I feel very comfortable creating targeted lesson plans. As for high school students I've mainly tutored Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Geometry, Trigonometry, SAT math prep, Chemistry, and Statistics. I have much experience tutoring high schoolers; in fact the majority of my previous students have been at the high school level. Not being too much older than students of this age range, I find I can relate quite well and I can serve as a role model, exemplifying how well-educated/smart/happy they too can be in 5 years (at my age).I generally prefer tutoring SAT math, Geometry, and Algebra 2; using mathematical reasoning to approach a challenge appeals to me because it's a skill that requires experience. I enjoy helping students reach the answer, emphasizing not the final solution, but instead the process used to find the solution. Being forced to think and solve critically is what expands students' minds and gives them experience mathematically, helping them figure out how to approach problems of all subjects in the future. These math courses incorporate a lot of critical thinking into each problem and that's where the fun is!I believe that all students are entitled to the best education possible, which can be accomplished in a variety of ways. It could mean a weekly tutor to supplement learning, or extra time with a teacher. Regardless of how it is accomplished, a student's access to efficient, individualized education catered specifically to his/her needs can define his/her successes in life. It is my belief that students deserve individualized attention from a single educator who is monitoring that specific student's strengths and weaknesses. A student deserves the best possible shot at life!In my free time I've recently started playing the piano, which also consequently got me into classical music. I sometimes take apart classical pieces on my computer and merge them with others, integrating various composers and styles; music has recently become a great hobby of mine.

I received my dual bachelor’s degrees at the University of Southern California in Neurosciences and Biological Sciences. Since graduation, I have worked for two years at a USC research institute; in that time, I also developed a love for teaching. In the course of discovering this affinity, I have taught programs from the Neighborhood Academic Initiative at USC for underserved high schoolers to my most recent employment at Kaplan, Inc. Although I have extensive experience in managing and working in a classroom, I prefer to work with students one-on-one; it is more rewarding for both of us to discover strengths and weaknesses, find how our teaching and learning styles match, and see improvement. The time I have spent taking and tutoring students for standardized tests has only refined my understanding of what students need and have the most trouble with. Although I enjoy and have experience teaching a vast array of subjects (especially during my time at a graduation lab at Irving High School), I am especially drawn to the sciences, math and English. The love for the former two stems from years of education and interest in the sciences, and the latter harks even further back to my addiction to reading that I acquired in elementary school. I am a voracious reader, especially science fiction and fantasy, and many have told me that my affection for the language is infectious! My hobbies outside devouring literary delicacies include singing, playing the guitar, basketball, running, boxing and hiking.

I am a recent graduate from The University of Chicago. I graduated with a degree in Political Science with much additional coursework in literature and philosophy. My favorite part about being a tutor is the moment of satisfaction that comes with seeing one of my students greatly improve after a lot of hard work. My favorite things to tutor are the GRE and the SAT, in part because I feel like a high score on these exams should be accessible for anyone if they are given the tools for success. As a former high school and college debater I enjoy having an opportunity to help students talk their way through the various logical challenges within these exams, as well as develop the kind of self-awareness and mental discipline that is essential to persevering and getting those last few questions right.

As a Washington University in St. Louis mechanical engineering senior, I have vast tutoring experience. Starting in high school I founded a tutoring club to help struggling students, and also tutored high-level math lane students on the side. After that, I went on to work at Mathnasium, where I tutored groups of up to 5 students at a time in math ranging from 1st grade to 8th grade. I am very familiar with how to motivate students who are bored or dont feel like doing work! As a freshman in college, I also volunteered by teaching reading and math to underprivileged students through Each One Teach One.In college, I went on to be employed as an engineering tutor for over 50% of my high level mechanical engineering courses. I have been a teaching assistant for Circuits, Mechanics 3, and Heat Transfer courses. I am confident in classes such as Calc 3, Physics I, CAD hand drafting or PTC Creo CAD, Differential Equations, Introduction to Electronics Circuits, Engineering Math A & B, Mechanics 1, 2, & 3, Materials Science, Thermodynamics, Design of Thermal Systems, Heat Transfer, Vibrations, Dynamics and Vibrations. I can help with full-length lab reports, as well as other upper level division mechanical engineering classes.I attended one of the most rigorous high schools in California, taking the highest level math lane classes offered each year. I am very confident in my abilities to teach or tutor in difficult Algebra, Geometry, Trigonometry, and Calculus classes, as well as math subjects below that level.Outside of tutoring, I am working towards an entrepreneurship minor. I am currently the COO and CFO of two early-stage medical device startups, and I will be employed as a healthcare consultant after the upcoming summer. I working towards an MBA. I have a passionate for dance, and performed in hip hop, Latin jazz, and Bollywood performances throughout college.Everyone has the potential to be whoever they want to be, if they put in the hard work. I motivate my students to find their own drive, becoming independent, hardworking and passionate about what they do. Each student is unique, and once I figure out what they find fun, I incorporate it into my teaching style. My ultimate goal is to give you the most out of each tutoring session.

I recently graduated from Cal Poly SLO with a degree in Aerospace Engineering. I am currently working for one of the biggest aerospace contractors in the world. Aside from the exciting field of aerospace, the past years in college and high school have also given me the experience to teach and improve others - whether it be through tutoring agencies or study groups with friends. I find it extremely exciting to see others learn more, realize their full potential, and I'm always striving to a facilitate their "aha!" moments. With a strong background in math, physics, and programming, I believe these things are not just for one's career but to share as well! Past clients enjoy my teaching style where I try to look at the same problem through different combinations/aspects to ensure full understanding. Furthermore, if all of my past students were to describe my tutoring style in one word it would be.. FUN!

I moved from Taiwan to the states when I was 11 years old. Fluent in both Mandarin and Taiwanese, I started tutoring students while I was a full time student in high school. I have taught American-born Chinese students, Korean nationals, and other US Citizens looking to learn the language! During each tutoring session, individual students focused on different goals when it came to learning Chinese: some students only focused on conversation skills, some focused on preparations for exams given by our local Chinese schools. Transitioning to college, the tutoring continued. Students taking college Chinese classes often email me for quick review sessions to help them ace their college exams.I believe in order to properly learn a new language, practicing the immersion technique will be most beneficial. The more a language is used and practiced the faster we learn. I will also supplement traditional teaching methods with a constantly changing array of context based interactive activities that will help children learn and retain Chinese language, culture, history, and other things (activities such as puppet shows, singing, celebrating traditional holidays & festivals and much more). In my free time I like to hike, beach, shop, practice yoga, explore the city, web page design, cook, hangout with friends and try new restaurants!I am a hard working recent college graduate that is eager to learn, teach with a flexible schedule, and can start as soon as possible!
