The student had forwarded the outline she had received of the topics to be covered on her linguistic class's final exam. This session was devoted to helping the student review for specific parts of her final that she didn't feel confident in, referencing other material she had received during the semester and the cross-references given in the exam guide with regard to the readings the class had been assigned during the semester.

We went over the student's three-minute speech that she wrote up for her class. I read her speech with her and corrected her grammar so that her sentences portrayed her intentions. Her speech was wonderful and so much fun to read. She had a great speech written. We will meet again on Monday to try and get the speech smooth for her presentation.

We reviewed all the materials for the student's upcoming exam. She got most things right, and I expect she will do well. Before the test, I would recommend that she go over the preterite conjugations of ser/ir and the preterite versus imperfect indicator phrases again.

The student and I completed our first lesson today. We began with pronunciation practice, and reviewed the Spanish alphabet, distinguishing the similarities and differences in the vowels and consonants as compared to English. We covered greetings, introductions, conversational pleasantries, and common salutations. We emphasized the importance of speaking in the correct register (i.e. the formal and familiar terms for "you"). We moved on to briefly introduce the concept of subject pronouns and verb conjugations. We had several short dialogues practicing the new vocabulary terms. Today served as an introduction into conversational Spanish. We will add on to our vocabulary in the next lesson.

The student and I met for our first session to focus on creating a "word bank" that would help her easily access phrases and vocabulary as part of her preparation for her upcoming verbal portion in the Spanish examination. The list was completed and there was some short conversing in Spanish. Moving forward, we'll be transferring the word bank onto large paper and practicing scenarios that may be used for the oral portion of the exam.

The student and I reviewed some concepts before her second oral and written test. We went over the vocabulary on lesson 2, reflexive verbs and ser vs estar. She did very well on both tests. We also started working on lesson 3, past tense verbs. We read the story in the lesson, and we went over the new vocabulary. Then, we worked on past verbs that end in -ar and she took a quiz where she needed to change the verb from present to past. She did a very good job!
