Session Summaries by Microbiology Tutors

Kirkland, WA Microbiology tutoring
We reviewed the student's Thermochemistry test. His comprehension going into the exam looked somewhat stronger than this result. The tests are quite tricky, and the first and last questions comprised content we hadn't reviewed together. Though, given the difficulty of this test, he earned every one of the points he got; nothing was given for free in this class. I did not move on from each correction until he convinced me that he understood both his mistake and how to do it correctly. We also briefly reviewed new material, Le Chat's principle. This will need more review to get to the point where he really understands the principle, which we will accomplish before the upcoming test.

Tonight we prepared for the student's final in her Chemistry course. She brought a practice final/review problem set that we tackled. I think this was key to tonight's success as we were able to dust the cobwebs off of all of the topics we covered this semester. She also will be attending a review session and then our next tutoring session Monday. I think she is very prepared and she seems confident in her approaches to problem solving. I do hope to improve her speed and really work on solidifying her thought processes when faced with chemistry problems. She is an awesome student and she informed me she got an A on her last chemistry test!! Very exciting!

We worked on defining the solute and solvent in problems, as well as worked a couple of long thermodynamics problems from her professor's lecture. She wants to meet again on Thursday morning.
