When we are struggling, we often blame ourselves or our own insufficiencies. However, I strongly believe that no student is "slow" ill suited to the subject; rather, students who are struggling need a little support and an adult who is eager to invest time and energy into their success. I am from Houston, Texas. I have always had a love for learning. This was evident when I was young and still exists today. I am the guy in the group who plays random trivia games to learn about new stuff that I have never been exposed to before. When I started college at Dillard University I discovered that I also have a deep love for teaching. I discovered the ultimate way to assess if you really know something is whether or not you can teach it to someone who may not be familiar with the subject matter. This a great challenge, but I enjoy it. I love to see the look on a person's face when they "get it." I have also found that I too learn new things about the subject that I may not have known before. This is a rewarding experience for me.The subjects I am most passionate about are Chemistry and Biochemistry. I am most comfortable with these subjects, since they were my majors in undergraduate school. Eventually, I hope to be a college professor full time. I value knowledge because once it is attained it cannot be taken away from someone. If a person decides to use it, it becomes even more valuable.

I've been teaching Physics and Chemistry for the last 6 years at a prestigious high school in Utah. Originally from Chicago, I'm happy to be back in the Midwest. I love teaching because I love to see students' enthusiasm when they understand something for the first time or when they finally accomplish something that is hard for them. Success in school is more than just about getting a grade. True success can build students' confidence, increase their desire to learn, and give them more optimism in their future endeavors. My Bachelor of Science degree is in Physics Teaching, with a minor in Chemistry, and my Master of Science degree is in Technology and Engineering Education. My programs well prepared me in the sciences and mathematics with many classes, labs, and tutoring opportunities. My Master's program is a rare field and has drastically reshaped the way I teach. For my thesis, I was able to study the effects of the engineering design process on students abilities to problem solve. Since then, I have focused my instruction not only on the content, but also on teaching kids how to think through challenging situations using an organized thought pattern. Instead of just help students with their homework, I work to help them understand the content and teach them how think through the problems so they can approach new situations without hesitation. My students have statistically been the highest in the school both in their classroom tests and on their standard tests. I've had particular success with closing the gender gap for my classes. On average, boys do 12% better than girls on their standard tests in science and math, but in my classes, there was no gender gap. All students did significantly higher than their school wide and statewide peers. I attribute this primarily to the ideas of teaching for understanding, using a gradual release of responsibility in solving problems, and teaching problem solving skills.

I am a Laboratory Manager at Case Western Reserve University. In 2011, I completed a Bachelor of Science in Zoology. My classes included a variety of invertebrate and vertebrate zoology specialties, as well as chemistry, cell and molecular biology. I also completed a Master of Science degree in Biochemistry from Case Western Reserve University in 2018. I have worked in medical research labs since 2009, and love learning and discovering new things through experimentation. As a lab manager, I have had to teach new personnel basic and advanced skills required for working in an animal research facility as well as a cell culture lab. Through this training, I discovered I have a passion for teaching, and would like to expand my passion into tutoring students. While I have a good foundation in a variety of Biology, Chemistry and Math subjects, I am most passionate about Vertebrate zoology, Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, and Algebra. I believe that everyone's learning style is different, and as the tutor, it is my job to figure out how best to present the information so the student becomes engaged, and realizes how much fun and interesting these subjects can be.

I received my Bachelors and Master's of Mathematics from the University of Cincinnati. Many of my courses focused on statistics. Since graduation, I have taught mathematics courses to college students. I have several years experience tutoring students in person as well as online. I have taught and tutored various levels of mathematics including beginning algebra, intermediate algebra, college algebra, trigonometry, statistics, and calculus. I enjoy teaching all levels of mathematics, but I enjoy calculus the most. When I tutor a student I try and build on a fundamental concept the student may already have an understanding of. I feel if a student can develop an understanding of a new concept using previous knowledge the student becomes more confident in their understanding of the new concept. I also feel a positive environment is most conducive for learning. I try to provide an environment that is not intimidating because I understand many students find mathematics in itself to be intimidating. In my free time, I enjoy running, zumba, watching NFL and NCAA basketball games, and spending time with my family. I recently finished my first half marathon and would like to eventually run a full marathon.
