LSAT Tutor • +6 Subjects
I am an attorney and solo practitioner who prepared for the LSAT on my own. I worked full time while attending law school at night, and while I studied for the Bar Exam. I know how to effectively manage time to achieve goals.I say this because the LSAT is not like other tests. The material is irrelevant. What is important is managing your time to optimize your score. I can help you improve your approach to the test so you can achieve the maximum results.

I enjoy working with students to help them reach their maximum potential. As a current college student, I have tutored students in elementary school all the way up through the age of my current peers. In preparation for college, I took the ACT multiple times and in the process learned a great deal of tips and strategies that are useful for raising scores. I believe in helping students truly understand the material, not just memorize it. I look forward to working with you and helping you reach your goals!

I believe that there are a few key steps that must be taken before being able to successfully facilitating learning: getting to know a student and building trust, discovering strengths and finding ways to utilize them, and building a love of learning and an enthusiasm for the process of learning, while continuing to feed that enthusiasm, especially when challenges are encountered in the learning process. Without these steps, the progress of the student will be much slower, if there is any at all.One on one teaching sessions are uniquely designed to better accomplish these steps. Perhaps your student's teacher has been too busy to really get to know him or her, or perhaps their personalities simply clash, which makes the learning process much more difficult for your child. This could have even led them to build barriers between themselves and learning.I can break down those barriers, discover your child's strengths and use those to help them conquer their difficulties. I'm very good at building trust with children. I worked as a camp counselor for 5 years with ages 9-18, and I've helped a lot of kids find their confidence and achieve things that they thought were impossible. I've also been working one on one helping students improve their writing since I was in high school. I started helping 4th graders with their writing portfolios at my old elementary school when I was fifteen, and in college I did a teaching internship there and at my old high school.I also gained a lot of experience in 6 years of creative writing workshops. I was lucky enough to go to Interlochen Arts Academy to study writing for the last two years of high school, and I spent all of college continuing to rigorously study the art of writing and the creative collaboration/critical experience one gets from writing workshops. I also learned a lot from getting a liberal arts education, where not learning what to learn but how to learn is the goal.

I am a proud graduate of Texas A&M University with my Bachelor's and Master's Degree in Accounting. Shortly after graduation, I obtained my CPA License in the State of Texas (Certified Public Accounting). I have an immense amount of experience with working with accounting concepts, standards, and financial statements. I love to share with anyone the best practices and methods to understanding one of the least liked subjects.Although I am an accountant by day, my love and passion is for writing, reading, and comprehension. After being published at the age of 10, I knew that I truly have a talent in writing. Shortly after, throughout middle school, high school, and college, I found an interest in helping my other peers with mechanics, comprehension, creativity, diction, and syntax. All in all, I have a zealous and fun-loving personality and one of my strengths is being able to connect and engage with my students! I like to think of creative techniques to engage my students and attempt to make learning fun. I am well versed in many subjects, and look forward to sharing with you!

I have studied world religions, ethics, and business for a number of years. In my studies, I have been particularly attuned to the differences and the understanding of culture, survival, ethics, religion, and society between eastern and western dominant paradigms. From a practical standpoint, I have worked with the Kansas City Interfaith Council for several years. Through my contacts with people of different religious perspectives and different national background, I have come to appreciate how some perceived knowledge does not preclude other viewpoints. I would rather say that in most cases various systems of thought complement one another. Openness to other cultures, ideal, religious thinking, and practice allows for expansion and understanding of one’s own system knowledge. While teaching both religion and business, I have attempted to unite ideas from both disciplines to create more understanding as to why and how ideas are influenced by various constituent elements of society. I have taken advantage of any opportunity to have contact with students of diverse cultural backgrounds. By listening and being introduced to different cultural groups, I have been able to interact with and acquire and understanding of different culture from both the ideal and actual aspects of that culture.Education and learning are not accomplished in a vacuum. Learning is often enhanced by its application in real life situations and conditions. To this end, teaching is expanded when it consists of strong theoretical bases for perspective, wide understanding of the scholarly work of a discipline for depth within the field, and good grounding in practical application for constructive use of knowledge. Learning is a reciprocating process between students, teachers, and advancement of knowledge. Teaching may come from students as well as teachers, and each person in the classroom environment should be respected for their own worth as a person, and a rational human.

I graduated from Brown with a B.S. in mathematics this past May. Whether it's test prep, math, or writing, any skill or problem can be broken down into small steps and tackled bit by bit. This makes hard problems far less scary and produces steady reward for the solver. My role in your study will be to help you find the small components in a problem and tackle each one, and provide a patient voice of encouragement for you. If you practice solving any kind of problem this way, eventually you won't believe that you ever found any subject intimidating.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Ames's 9 schools with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends an elementary, middle, or high school in the Ames Community School District, we can match them with a tutor who understands their specific curriculum and academic needs.
Tutors work with Ames students on the specific skills and content outlined in Iowa's academic standards across math, reading, science, and social studies. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to identify gaps in understanding and target instruction to help students master grade-level expectations and prepare for state assessments.
Ames students most frequently seek tutoring in math and reading, especially during transitions between grade levels. We also work with many students preparing for standardized tests like the ACT, as well as those needing support in science and writing across elementary through high school.
In the first session, the tutor will assess your student's current understanding of the subject, discuss specific challenges or goals, and develop a personalized learning plan. This initial meeting helps establish a strong foundation for ongoing progress and allows the tutor to tailor instruction to your student's learning style and pace.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 14.3:1 in Ames classrooms, individual students sometimes need more targeted support than group instruction allows. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring gives your student undivided attention, allowing tutors to adjust pacing, revisit difficult concepts, and focus on exactly what your student needs to succeed.
We consider your student's grade level, subject, specific learning goals, and learning style when connecting them with a tutor. Our matching process ensures that tutors have expertise in Ames's curriculum and can provide the personalized instruction your student needs to build confidence and improve performance.
Yes, tutoring with Varsity Tutors is flexible. You can choose the frequency and length of sessions that work best for your family, whether that's weekly support or intensive help before a big test or assignment. We work with families to find a tutoring plan that meets both academic goals and budget needs.
Tutors provide regular feedback on your student's progress, including improvements in understanding, test scores, grades, and confidence. You'll see concrete results through better performance on classroom assignments, standardized tests, and most importantly, in your student's increased engagement with learning.
