I am a graduate of James Madison University. I graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in May of 2010. My majors were History and Spanish. I chose to study these two subjects because I enjoyed them! I studied Spanish for 9 years, in both college and high school, and I studied various eras of History while in college. I believe that with my understanding of these two subjects, I will be able to help students better understand their courses and schoolwork by finding creative ways to help them relate to the material. I look forward to working with you and helping you to achieve your scholastic goals.

I am currently a junior at Georgia Southern University. I will be graduating in the Spring of 2022 with a Bachelors in Communication Studies. My first two years of college were spent going to McHenry County College (MCC) and getting my Associates in the Arts. While attending MCC I spent a lot of my time tutoring other students and children still in high school and below. While I tutor in a broad range of subjects, I am really passionate about English, and Public Speaking. In my experience, I find the most joy in seeing the improvement in students. I am fully aware that not every student is going to get an A. But when I see that a student is getting better, and their grade improves even in the slightest bit, I know that their brain in growing. I really believe that all education is important, even when the kids ask the question "when am I going to use this in the real world?", they just don't understand that we are helping their brains grow.

I gained a passion for teaching over twenty five years ago; a passion I've not lost after many years. I get immense pleasure when the student(s) grasp a concept, solve a problem, or make any accomplishment whether great or small. My journey as a teacher started as a teacher's aide which inspired me to become a teacher. I was trained in Jamaica and later completed a BA at Brooklyn College NY with my major in Elementary Education.Over the years I have taught in public, and private schools. I have used whole group, small groups, and individual methods. A focal responsibility was to implement grade level appropriate classroom instruction in all basic subject areas.Mathematics and Reading are the subjects I tutor most as that is where there seem to be the greatest need. It's rewarding to me to see the expressions on faces of early learners as they start reading, or a 4th grader being able to solve a Math problem independently. Tutoring empower students to reach a higher potential, and build a greater self worth. As a Tutor I spend much time reading as well.

When I'm tutoring, my goal is not simply to help a student perform for a test or even whole course. That's only goal one.I aim for a tutoring environment which generates discussion, and proposes solutions, in which students think critically about the content at hand, ask their own questions, and exercise ways to find their own answers. Learning in this manner allows students to better face future challenges, and think critically about topics in and out of academia.I look forward to working with you and helping you better yourself, whether that be in a class or for a test, for now and in the future.

I am currently a medical student in Philadelphia, and have a degree in Biomedical Engineering from Stony Brook University. I have several years of experience tutoring SAT students, but thanks to my mixed background I have proficiency in a wide range of subjects including mathematics, biological sciences, engineering, and physical sciences.I am passionate about teaching, and have taught healthcare sciences to underprivileged high school students in my spare time. My own experience as a student has taught me that learning new subject material can be intimidating, so my teaching philosophy involves a focus on breaking down complex problems into simpler, less daunting components. As a teacher I am most fulfilled when, through systematic instruction and problem-solving, I am able to promote the type of academic confidence that allows students to achieve their full potential.I was a collegiate rugby player and understand the struggles of the student-athlete. However, I firmly believe that many of the qualities that earn success in athletics can also translate to the classroom. I strive to exemplify this balance and motivate students to pursue success in all areas of their life.

Tutoring a variety of subjects and students of various backgrounds helps me recognize a students personal needs and cater to the individual learning style every person has. This approach combined with a focus on a deep understanding of the topic, developing good study habits, and problem solving abilities allows my students not only to excel during the time of tutoring, but after it as well. I am comfortable teaching ACT math, science, reading and SAT math and reading. Test prep is my favorite subject to teach; although, I am more than qualified to teach other subjects as well. I hope to help my students excel not only in the classroom, but life as well.
