I am a sophomore, English and Computer Science double major at Carleton College who is ecstatic about teaching and spreading my love of learning. I am also greatly interested in sociology and gender studies, and have yet to decide if I will minor in one of those fields, too. I love helping students discover a passion for reading and expressing themselves through writing. My favorite areas to tutor are those having to do with English; I enjoy everything from AP Literature to essay writing for class. When I'm not at school or tutoring, I spend my time reading, playing piano and guitar, and rock climbing. Hobbies: books, music, art, reading, writing

I'm a freshman at Rice University, and planning to major in Mathematical Economic Analysis and Computer Science. I'm also a student athlete and a starting member of The Rice University Men's Golf Team so I understand time is crucial and will do my best to help you understand and not just memorize concepts so you don't have to spend time every week trying to understand the same thing. A lot of math concepts repeat themselves in high school and college. My core is in math and that is where I will be most efficient in helping a student. Aside from that, please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.

I am graduate of Brown University, where I received a degree in Economics and studied topics ranging from Computer Science and Applied Math to Literary Arts and Philosophy. I even helped create a class during my senior year, working together with other students to write a syllabus, gather reading materials, schedule guest speakers, and ultimately, present the results to an academic dean for course credit. After graduation, I moved to Hong Kong, where I worked at a a summer program at the University of Hong Kong, in partnership with the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth, as a Teaching Assistant in a Game Theory class for advanced middle school students. After the program ended, I traveled around Asia, visiting places in Malaysia and Vietnam before eventually returning to the American South, where, as a native North Carolinian, I feel at home. I usually prefer tutoring in subjects involving math and social sciences but I am very flexible. Outside of education, I love playing guitar and piano, and I have released music both as a solo artist and as part of a band. I also like to play disc golf and lacrosse and enjoy participating in fantasy football.

I am Tegan, an undergraduate at Rice University majoring in Biosciences on the pre-med track. Throughout high school and college, I have realized that the key to a successful academic career is having educators that are truly invested in a student's education. Enthusiastic instructors created exciting and engaging lessons which led to more motivated students. With my experience tutoring middle school students and adult ESL learners, I aimed to be patient with student concerns and hold a positive attitude while teaching, embodying the supportive culture I thrived in. During tutoring sessions, I hope to instill in students confidence in the material and to take ownership of their learning.

I am experienced in tutoring math, science, English, and the environmental sciences, but my favorite subjects to tutor are beginner's Chinese, reading and writing skills, and essay writing and revision. Over the years, I've seen that every student has an individual, personalized learning style, and I strongly believe it is important for tutors to match their teaching styles to the student. The qualities I'll bring into every session with my students are patience, commitment, and persistence, with an eye for a comprehensive mastery of all aspects to the material.

I'm currently attending Rice University- pursuing a double major Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Economics. As you can probably tell I'm very passionate about math, and I'm even more passionate about teaching it! I prefer to teach math a little differently than some of you may used to. Many of students think of math as a plug and chug approach- simply being given formulas and plugging numbers in. While I will give you the formulas and critical things to remember if you insist on it, I prefer to teach mathematics as a form of problem solving. How math works is a beautiful thought process- understanding how a formula was conceived is much more rewarding than simply memorizing it. But in the end it's all up to you- the student. If you want a fast run-down of everything you need to know to ace the test- I'll happily help you. However, if you're willing to think outside of the box and learn some very neat stuff, I'll open the doors to mathematical problem solving for you!

Frequently Asked Questions
Varsity Tutors connects students across Seguin's 20 schools in both the Seguin ISD and Guadalupe County school districts. Whether your student attends an elementary, middle, or high school in the area, we match them with tutors who understand the local curriculum and Texas academic standards they need to meet.
With nearly 9,400 students across Seguin's school districts, we see strong demand for math and science tutoring, particularly as students progress through algebra, geometry, and biology—critical foundations for high school success. English and reading comprehension support is also popular, especially for students preparing for STAAR assessments and college readiness.
Yes. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors experienced in Texas STAAR preparation across reading, writing, math, and science. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction allows tutors to target your student's specific knowledge gaps and build confidence in the exact skills tested on STAAR assessments.
Your student's first session focuses on getting to know each other and assessing their current level, learning style, and specific academic goals. The tutor will ask about challenges in their coursework, review recent test scores or assignments, and develop a personalized plan for ongoing support tailored to their needs.
Seguin's average student-teacher ratio of 14.4:1 means classroom teachers manage many students at different levels. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring allows a tutor to focus entirely on your student's learning pace, adjust explanations in real time, and spend extra time on concepts that need reinforcement—something that's difficult in a traditional classroom setting.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor qualifications, and your student's grade level. We offer flexible options to fit different budgets and scheduling needs. Contact us for a personalized quote and to learn about package options that work best for your family.
Absolutely. While math, science, and English are popular, Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors across many subjects including history, foreign languages, test prep (SAT, ACT, AP exams), and more. If your student needs support in a specific area, we can help find the right match.
Tutors are experienced educators and subject-matter experts who understand Texas curriculum standards and local learning needs. Each tutor is carefully matched to your student based on subject expertise, teaching style, and availability to ensure the best fit for personalized instruction.
