Tutoring review by Vanessa in New Bedford, MA
Today we covered finding the volume of prisms, pyramids, cylinders, and cones. We worked a lot on showing all of her steps and taking her time to check and re-check her calculations. She did not want to show her work at first but by the end of the session she had a positive attitude and was getting more answers correct because she was taking her time. We practiced extra problems on the whiteboard for finding volume. She then worked through her grammar homework for language arts which she did very well on. She received a 78 on her math test last week. When she gets her test back we will go over what she missed.

The student has a test tomorrow, so we went over her study guide. I clarified the difference between a partial sum and sum of a series and the corresponding formulas. I taught her how to find the missing terms of a series. We then moved onto binomial expansion. We went over how to determine which row of Pascal's triangle to use. Originally, she was calculating the wrong coefficients, but I taught her how to properly input the terms in her calculator so she could get the correct answer.

Lastly, we worked on math word problems involving decimals. She has very good problem solving skills and for the most part is able to work through them with ease. She is very organized and such a hard worker!

The session today with the student went really well. She wanted to review for a quiz she has on Wednesday so we covered the chain rule, particle motion, and limits. She is gaining confidence with the material and is doing much better in her class. I can see the effort she is putting into the class and it is starting to pay.

Tutoring review by Megan in New Bedford, MA
The student is reading the Outsiders and wanted some assistance making sure that the questions he was answering for his teacher were being answered correctly and thoroughly. We had discussions about the current chapter and bounced ideas off of each other until he decided on his final answers. We also went over ratios and unit rates since his Math teacher had emailed me that he was struggling with it but that they were past it in class. He seemed to do well once he remembered the steps, but I will be bringing him more challenging problems next week to ensure that he has it down.
