Tutoring review by Phoebe in Lawrence, IN
Today we completed a quiz that covered algebraic manipulations, simultaneous equations, and geometry. The student was completely lost with the material at the beginning of the session, but I modeled and explained the processes and systematically assigned more responsibility for solutions to the student. She definitely understood what the questions were asking at the end of the session. She needs to practice much more to become adept at solving, but I was pleased with her progress.

Tutoring review by Samuel in Lawrence, IN
We started this session working in the student's general summer bridge workbook. She did a brief math facts activity, wrote a short letter about summer, and classified several verbs as either active or linking verbs. After completing these activities, we went through all of the "sight words" flashcards from the back of the summer bridge workbook. She did an excellent job with these words. Although she didn't know all of them immediately on sight, she was able to get the vast majority on her own, and required minimal prompting for the rest. To finish up the session, we read together from one of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid books. She read with a great, fluid pace, and required very little support to correct minor mistakes.

Tutoring review by Anne in Lawrence, IN
The student and I prepared for his next test by working through practice problems in sections on analyzing curves using derivatives, applying L'Hopital's rule, and working with antiderivatives and graphical interpretations of definite integrals. We went over the major procedures that he needs to have at his fingertips and I suggested further practice problems for him to work on. I believe he is much better prepared for this test than the previous one. He also scored a 92% on his previous quiz.

Tutoring review by Albina in Lawrence, IN
We worked on patterns and sets and how to identify exponential and linear equations. The student needs to get used to writing out steps for several reasons. It helps keep track of where he might have gone wrong, and it also allows his teachers to see his thought process and potentially grant him partial credit. If his thought process is correct, often teachers are willing to overlook a tiny mistake. Also writing down his thought process would help him follow along with it himself. It was a pleasure working with him- I wish him only success in all of his endeavors.

Tutoring review by Sarah Brooke in Lawrence, IN
Today was our last session. We went over his essay, the analogy section, and the reading section. We talked about how to improve his persuasive essay, fine tuning in the analogy section, and skipping questions. He takes his test this Saturday and I'm confident he will do well, but I am sending his father a persuasive essay topic for him to practice more if he likes. I am also available to tutor him further if his scores don't reflect his goals.
