Over my career journey, I have taught at different levels, including elementary, high school, college, and organizational levels.A recent project I've worked on and I'm excited about involves building a data assimilation system that helps predict ocean and weather conditions. Building such a model requires interdisciplinary knowledge and skills, with the understanding of various subjects in computer science, mathematics, physics, chemistry, environmental science, biology, etc.I am excited to meet and help new students overcome their academic challenges on this platform.

To understand my perspective on education, it is important to know my background. I am the son of a former New York City administrator and educator. I started learning math at the age of three as I was enrolled in a Montessori school as a toddler. Knowing that the quality of the education students were receiving in NYC public schools, my mother sacrificed and sent me to a private parochial school from 1st-8th grade.I tested into Brooklyn Technical High School, one of the three specialized high schools in New York City, but opted to attended a school that had a pre-med program in my borough. I took anatomy and advanced placement courses and earned a National Merit Scholarship based on my PSAT performance.I then attended the leading historically Black university, Howard University, where I majored in Biology an minored in Chemistry. I went on to take the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) and Medical College Admissions Test (MCAT), attend graduate and medical school and I received Masters and Doctoral degrees in Genetics and Human Genetics.I matriculated through the first two years of medical school and successfully passed Step 1 of the United States Medical Licensing Exam of USMLE.In addition to the concepts covered in the classes and courses, I am also very familiar with the application processes and all of the standardized tests required for entry into both graduate and medical school as well as their respective prep courses.My teaching philosophy is that any student can learn any concept if it is presented in a way that is compatible with their learning style. The concept of learning style is one that I was introduced to rather late in my academic career. However, I think this is the key and a major reason that many students struggle in school. After being introduced to the concept, I could identify the reasons that I performed so much better in high school biology than I did in chemistry.With this understanding, one of the first things I ask student I tutor is if they know what their learning style is. If they don't, recommend they use a free online assessment to find out. I earned my Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees from Hunter College, focusing on Early Childhood and Elementary Education and Literacy, respectively. As a veteran educator, I have worked with students one-on-one, in small groups, and whole-class settings, in-person and virtually in the public, charter, and private schools. My day-to-day experience with early childhood and elementary students is focused on supporting their understanding of reading, writing, and mathematics, including specific instruction for students enrolled in the English as a New Language program, which also involves preparing them for standardized tests. My favorite subject to tutor is writing because it is an avenue for expression and unique to the individual. Everyone learns at a different pace and in different ways, so it is essential to offer various learning opportunities. My tutoring style involves strategic technology integration that allows student interaction while providing the content from different perspectives. I just finished my 3rd year working as a School Psychologist for a metro area school district. I am excited to tutor students of all ages in a variety of academic and test prep areas. I was raised in the U.S. and am a native English speaker with a diverse educational background. I attended preschool through 11th grade in the U.S. and received my high school (international baccalaureate) diploma from an international boarding school in Hong Kong. During college, I studied Mandarin Chinese and Korean. I completed 6 months of study abroad in South Korea. I have extensive 1:1 tutoring experience. In college, I worked as a teacher and private tutor for Korean high school students applying for US colleges. As a graduate student, I served as a reading interventionist for K-4th graders for 2 years. I have previous test prep experience as an ACT class teacher and private tutor for a national company. I have a lot of experience working with students both at Carol City Middle School mentoring them and giving them academic advice to succeed as well as coaching volleyball at Florida Suns Volleyball Academy. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about English and Writing. I think it is very powerful to have a well-written essay. I am a firm proponent of academic success. I completed my undergraduate degree in 3 years and I would love to help students on a path of their own. In my spare time, I enjoy playing volleyball, reading, exercising, watching Netflix, and playing with animals! I was a volleyball athlete for 12 years of my life and the aspect of teamwork and hard work has shaped me into the person I am today.
