Tutoring review by James in El Mirage, AZ
The student and I started by reviewing his math test. He showed understanding of the broad concepts on the exam, but he committed some minor errors which cost him points (e.g., forgetting a negative sign, forgetting to perform an operation to both sides of an equation). He should slow his rate of working on problems and focus more attention on avoiding errors such as these. This is an area will continue to address in future sessions. He also sometimes has difficulty grasping the question that a word problem is asking and then finding and utilizing relevant information. Time and effort needs to go into tutoring sessions and extra help with his math teacher in grasping and mastering these problems. He and I reviewed his errors (successfully), and he is going to review the exam with his teacher as well. After this, he and I worked on his science review for an exam on Thursday. He is looking up definitions still, and vocabulary will no doubt be a major factor in the exam, just as it was on the quiz earlier in the term. He needs to have a strong command of the vocabulary, not just in definitions, but in understanding how to apply those definitions to the subject matter.

Tutoring review by Steven in El Mirage, AZ
We covered simplification of polynomial expressions and complex fractions. The student seems to get the material decently well but can be intimidated by large algebraic expressions. She was very positive during the entire experience. My best advice to her was to take problems piece by piece. Once she takes problems piece by piece, she won't be as easily intimidated by the problems and it will help build her confidence. She seems to have many outlets for extra problems. It was a wonderful session and it seemed very helpful

Tutoring review by Michael in El Mirage, AZ
We went over finding the GCF between two Algebraic terms and then factoring it out. I wrote down the process and asked her to copy, which she did. We went over a few problems together and then I had her do a several on her own. I made the problems a little bit more challenging each time. She made a great effort to understand and with a little guidance, she was able to accomplish the problems successfully. The student's mom is going to try to get work from her teacher, that she can do in order to improve her grade and we will go over problems for each topic that she is responsible for.

Tutoring review by Vanessa in El Mirage, AZ
During this session we reviewed for finals for both students. We worked on science, language arts, and math for Student 1. She had lengthy reviews for each class but was well prepared with her study sheets so that she could just be quizzed over the material. There were some topics in her math review that she specifically wanted to work on, so we went over examples of those. Student 2 worked on his Algebra review. He struggled at first with remembering how to factor polynomials, but after a brief review, he remembered the process. We also worked on simplifying radicals as well as exponent rules. Great session.

We worked on reviewing the student's math homework using proportion charts and variable equations. We also reviewed a paragraph synthesizing the similarities and differences between Egypt (the topic they just finished up) and Greece (their new topic of focus). We continued to review from her 7th grade math workbook on percentages and decimals.
