Tutoring review by Brian in Council Bluffs, NE
Today we began by reviewing coordinate geometry. The student has had trouble solving the area of a triangle from coordinates of 3 vertices. We completed a set of practice exercises on this. The current unit is on medians and circumcenters of triangles. I explained the mathematical principles underlying the concepts and he completed the assigned homework. Next session I will begin by checking for comprehension on medians/circumcenters.

We did more practice problems for the PSAT using a test prep site as a resource. The student is going to do more practice problems throughout the week and then next (and final session), we will most likely have problems for her to do with a time limit on each to work on attempting the problems under the stress of a time limit.

The student and I again focused on Pre-Calculus. The section he is working on is division of polynomials and finding zero solutions (x-axis intercepts). After going through several problems, he became more engaged with the process. We also reinforced + or - p/s to find potential zeros in a polynomial.

Tutoring review by Tam in Council Bluffs, NE
The student and I discussed graphing trigonometric functions: sin(x), cos(x), tan(x), sec(x) and csc(x). We determined the amplitude, period (including compression/ expansion with coefficient), phase shift (left/right combined with compression/ expansion), and vertical shift. The graphs were very complicated with several shifts/ changes, especially for sec(x) and csc(x) functions which involved asymptotes. However, she absorbed the materials well and was able to follow until the end of the session. I appreciate her seriousness and patience.
