Elementary School English Tutor • +14 Subjects

I'm a licensed Mortgage Loan Officer with over 10 years of experience in the mortgage industry. I have a MBA and a Bachelor's degree in Finance. I've previously tutored middle school children in-person in Math, Science and English during the summers. I am also a certified ESL instructor and I currently tutor adults and children in different countries (mainly in Asia) looking to improve their English. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about Personal Finance. In my experience tutoring students, we always seem to have the most fun, but the classes are life-changing at the same time. I am a firm proponent of education; believing it to be absolutely necessary for an improved quality of life, and I try to impart this appreciation to all of my students. In my spare time, I enjoy working out at the gym, practicing yoga and traveling with my family and friends. I also love to dance. I hope to see you in class soon!

ACCUPLACER ESL - Reading Skills Tutor • +19 Subjects

There is nothing more rewarding than watching "the light bulb come on" after a student finally gets it! You almost want to do a dance to celebrate. As a teacher, I find the best method of teaching includes finding out what each student's learning style is - and every student has one. Once that key is found, learning becomes adventurous - and even enjoyable :) Though I have successfully helped students in many traditional K - 12 classrooms from Ohio to the Carolinas, I find that tutoring presents the best opportunity to discover just what it is that will help each student learn.I became a teacher because of a teacher in my own life who exemplified the personal responsibility and duty it takes to be effective in the lives of students. I went on to receive two bachelor's degrees, one from The Ohio State University in History (my favorite subject), and one from Calvary Chapel Bible College in Theology and Biblical Studies (my other favorite subject). I received my State Licensure to teach from Ohio Dominican College, and even continued on to study Hebrew at the Master's level from Ashland Theological Seminary. (Hopefully I will finish that one day!) I have studied many different foreign languages because I enjoy English so much. It is my favorite subject to tutor. Along with math. And history. And reading. And how can I forget Bible? And biology. And...well, you see the picture. I really, really, really was born to teach! I look forward to meeting you and your son and/or daughter soon!

AP US History Tutor • +8 Subjects

As a teacher with 14 years of experience, I still remember what it was like as a student. Some classes were difficult and once I got behind, it was hard for me to catch up. The teachers that were patient and explained concepts clearly were my favorite teachers. That is the type of teacher I have become. I aim to help all students of all levels by explaining the learning objectives in an easy to digest fashion. I also aim to put the students in the center by asking them a lot of questions so I can ensure they understand the learning content. Students feel very comfortable with the questions I ask because I am extremely patient with every question. If the student gives a wrong answer or an answer I possibly disagree with, then we go over it together to find another solution. I do this because I remember being afraid to ask questions in class because I didn't want to embarrass myself. My students never feel embarrassed; they feel respected, they feel they are becoming smarter, they feel more confident.Let me tell you a little more about myself. I have taught many subjects over my career. I have taught ESL, English Language and Composition, English Literature, American History, and World History. I have also taught Mandarin Chinese. I lived in China for many years. In fact, my wife is from China, and we communicate in Chinese daily. My received a degree in History and a master's degree in International Studies. These subjects have always interested me and that is why I studied them. I feel grateful that I can now teach them in school with my students. I am a lifelong learner that constantly learn new ideas every day and plan to for the rest of my life. I am also humble and know that I don't know everything. In fact, I learn from my students all the time. This makes teaching the ideal job for me.I look forward to working with you!

I am an avid artist, author and studying for my Art Therapy Certification. I love teaching, to see students so proud of their work that exceeds their expectations! I am patient, kind and supportive of my students. Covid messed with everything that is for sure and the arts are usually the first programs to cut. It is sooo important to have a break from the stress and create! You don't needs words to express yourself through the arts. Your own personal work can influence those who see it in ways the artists doesn't always expect or intend. That is the beauty of art!
