The student completed homework in finding area, perimeter, and lengths associated with regular polygons of n sides. We did both problems working off of diagrams and a number of abstract word problems that involved understanding formulas. I think she has a good grasp of the material, and did well when things were explained to her.

The student and I worked on arithmetic sequences, geometric sequences, their series, and sigma notation. We discussed an important technique for summing sequences that don't start with n=1. For instance, to sum the 4th through 10th members of a sequence, we sum entries 1-10 and 1-3 and take their difference.

In this session, the student worked on 1-3 of her math assignment which was on transformation with functions. We worked on generating functions from parent functions that featured particular transformations. We then graphed the functions in order to visual the transformation that were made. Finally, we created a graphic organizer to help understand the differences between horizontal compression/ stretches and vertical compression/ stretches. We then planned out how we would use the time together tomorrow to finish up this chapter of math content and prep for an upcoming chemistry test.

We covered imaginary numbers, parabola word problems, and fundamentals regarding fractions and the behavior of variables and exponents. The student had a great attitude as usual, and she told me she felt confident about her most recent exam.

Tutoring review by Stephen in Carmel, IN
The student and I covered quadratic equations and projectile motion. He struggled with world problems and figuring out what exactly the question is asking for. This is something we will continue working on. We discussed strategies for solving word problems including underlining important given information, drawing pictures to help visualize the problem, and using a graphing calculator. I suggested he complete four practice problems before our next session. Once it's returned, we will be able to review a chapter test that he took earlier this week.
