I am currently a student at Brigham Young University studying Applied Physics. After finishing my degree I am planning on pursuing a master's degree in Aerospace Engineering. Since January 2014 I have worked in the physics help lab at BYU. Throughout this time I have greatly enjoyed helping many students increase their understanding of physics. I love seeing my students have a "light-bulb" moment where suddenly everything we discussed makes sense to them. I think it is extremely important for everyone to have (at least) a basic understanding of math and science as this helps us to better understand our world. I am greatly motivated to teach in a way that my students understand the fundamental principles and not in a way that they can merely get the right answer. I love trying to pass on my enthusiasm for math and science to my students, and I am always looking for ways to show how cool and fun mastering these subjects can be. Although I am most passionate about physics, I also tutor math and Spanish. When I'm not studying or teaching I enjoy swimming, reading (especially Michael Crichton and Orson Scott Card), and exchanging movie quotes with my roommates. Hobbies: art, movies, reading, swimming, writing, books, music, hiking

I'm Garrett and I live in Salt Lake City and I want to help you understand topics in natural science and mathematics. I have a bachelor's degree in geological science (geophysics) from University of Colorado Boulder with a minor in mathematics. Part of my success in college came from the preparation I had from taking AP Calculus and Physics courses in high school. I'm a huge fan of visual aids and examining real-life examples and applications when teaching. I worked as a learning assistant in an astronomy lab course and as a tutor for student athletes in geology while attending CU. I've been honing the ability to craft perfect analogies to help you make sense of mathematical or physical concepts.

I am dedicated to helping my students achieve their full potential as my own personal goal. When I worked as a tutor at the Burbridge Athletics Academic Center at the University of Utah, where I also earned my Bachelors of Science in Physics, I developed a passion for education, which I intend to continue with now that I have moved to Washington DC. I am able to tutor students in Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science, having developed experience as part of my pursuit of that degree. I also have an intense interest in History, which I pursued in my general educational requirements of that same degree. I am a kinesthetic learner, and I believe that the best way to develop an understanding of a subject is to do, rather than watch or listen.

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across American Fork's 15 schools and three school districts with personalized tutoring support. Whether your student attends a school in Alpine, Lehi, or American Fork school districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands local curriculum standards and can support their specific academic needs.
With an average student-teacher ratio of 20.6:1 in American Fork schools, many students benefit from personalized 1-on-1 instruction to fill gaps and accelerate learning. A tutor can provide the individualized attention that's harder to achieve in larger classroom settings, helping students master concepts at their own pace and build confidence in challenging subjects.
Tutors who work with American Fork students are familiar with Utah's Core Standards and can tailor instruction to align with what your student is learning in class. Whether it's math proficiency, reading comprehension, or science concepts, personalized tutoring helps students master grade-level expectations and prepare for state assessments.
American Fork students typically seek tutoring in math (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts, and science. We also support students preparing for the ACT, which is widely taken by Utah high school students, as well as students needing help with AP courses and foundational skills in elementary grades.
The first session focuses on understanding your student's learning style, identifying specific challenges, and setting clear goals. The tutor will assess where your student stands relative to grade-level expectations and create a personalized plan to address gaps and build skills in the areas where they need the most support.
Absolutely. Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors who can support everything from foundational skills to advanced coursework, including honors and AP classes. American Fork students taking rigorous courses can benefit from expert tutors who specialize in their subject and can help them excel at higher levels.
Tutoring schedules are completely flexible and customized to fit your family's needs. Whether your student needs help during the school week, on weekends, or during busy seasons, you can work with a tutor to find a schedule that works for your household.
Getting started is simple—tell us about your student's needs, grade level, and goals, and we'll match them with an experienced tutor. You can begin with an initial session to see if it's a good fit, and then build a consistent tutoring plan that supports your student's progress throughout the year.
