I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more.

I am entirely committed to ensuring every one of my students break through the barriers preventing them from reaching their full potential. My process involves an individual, connected explanation of the content, discussing problem-solving strategies to make testing much easier than it seems, encouraging practice and the growth of individual learning, and making sure my style of teaching is right for my student's style of learning. Most importantly, I seek to make my students love learning as much as I do.

I am a graduate of Kansas State University with a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts degree in English Literature. During my time at Kansas State, I worked as a student tutor on subjects ranging from geology to French, and while pursuing my Master's degree, I taught Expository Writing to college students. While I am experienced with Writing and Language tutoring and enjoy teaching both, I am primarily a standardized test tutor with Varsity Tutors. Test prep combines the challenge of adapting to different learning styles with the high degree of reward that comes from helping a student raise his or her test scores and therefore open doors for that student, and for this reason, it is by far my favorite subject to tutor. I believe that an educator must first appreciate how each individual student approaches a new concept in order to understand the most effective means for that student to progress, and for this reason, I place the utmost importance on the student rather than the subject. When I am not tutoring or substitute teaching, I enjoy playing guitar, watching football and writing fiction.

I'm an oldest child, which means growing up, I was the first kid to run into most challenges, and the best equipped one to teach my five younger siblings how to navigate them. Working with them and mentoring them was probably my first experience with "tutoring", and it left strong impressions on me. To help someone is to treat them like your family.

I am a graduate of The University of Tulsa, where I received BA degrees in Anthropology and Sociology. While studying at Tulsa, I tutored students in several subjects including, Sociology, Anthropology, and Statistics, among others. In addition, I occasionally served as a guest lecturer at the University's introductory-level Sociology courses. I offer tutoring in SAT/ACT test prep, English, Anthropology, Sociology, and Social Studies. I enjoy most working with students on writing and revising essays in any subject. When I'm tutoring, I think it is most important to talk through issues with my students and try to ascertain how they're thinking about the problems they're trying to solve. If you're thinking about the fundamentals of a problem in the correct way, any other details will fall into place fairly easily.

I am currently in my second year at the University of Kansas. I am majoring in secondary history and government education and minoring in art history. Most of my tutoring experience comes from high school, where I peer tutored a student in her world history class. As an upperclassman, I also gained a lot of mentoring experience on my school's debate team as I helped new debaters learn the ropes of the activity. As my intended college degree reflects, I am most excited about teaching history, government, and art history classes, but I have a strong background in English as well. As a former AP and honors high school student, I would love to share the strategies that I found to be the most successful. I believe education not only improves society, but can help shape students to their fullest potential. I would love to be someone who facilitates that development. Outside of academics, I am a total bookworm, my favorite TV show is The Good Place, and I try to spend as much time outside as I can without getting a sunburn.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across Salina's three school districts with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends school in USD 305, USD 309, or another district in the area, we match them with tutors who understand local curriculum standards and can support their specific academic needs.
Salina students frequently seek help with math, science, and standardized test preparation, particularly as they progress through middle and high school. We also work with students on reading comprehension, writing skills, and Kansas-specific academic standards across all grade levels.
Even with reasonable student-teacher ratios, classroom instruction can't address every student's individual learning pace or gaps. Personalized 1-on-1 tutoring fills that gap by giving your student focused attention on their specific challenges—whether that's mastering a difficult concept, building confidence, or getting ahead in their coursework.
The first session is an opportunity for the tutor and student to get to know each other and identify specific learning goals. The tutor will assess your student's current level, discuss what they're struggling with, and create a personalized plan to address those areas—whether it's catching up on foundational skills or preparing for an upcoming test.
Tutors working with Salina students are familiar with Kansas learning standards and local curriculum requirements. They tailor instruction to align with what your student is learning in class, ensuring tutoring reinforces classroom concepts and helps them master the specific skills and content standards expected at their grade level.
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students with tutors experienced in preparing for standardized tests like the SAT, ACT, and Kansas state assessments. Tutors work with students on test-taking strategies, content review, and practice problems tailored to each student's target score and timeline.
Tutoring rates vary based on the subject, tutor expertise, and your student's needs. We offer flexible options to fit different budgets, and you can discuss pricing directly when connecting with a tutor.
