I have also taught AP French and college-level French.

I am enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering PhD program at Rice University which will begin Fall 2020, and I am hoping to return to academia as a professor after earning my PhD. In the meantime, I am looking to share my passion for gaining knowledge, specifically in STEM, by educating the up and coming members of such a great field. I have experience tutoring both Calculus and Physics at Notre Dame, as well as experience as a Student Assistant for Differential Equations and Mechanics. I believe the key to learning is much deeper than learning to solve problems and that seeking knowledge is one of the best means for personal improvement.
I am currently a senior at Washington University in St. Louis and will be attending law school next year. My areas of expertise are Political Science and Government, History, Writing, and ACT prep. I teach a weekly course to underserved youth for ACT prep and have done well personally on both the ACT and the LSAT. My philosophy is to guide you in your search to find the correct answers - not to give them to you. I am extremely goal-oriented, and I look forward to helping you achieve yours.
I am currently a first-year student at Northwestern University studying Neuroscience and Global Health. I have experience tutoring K-12 students in mathematics, ranging from teaching elementary school students how to add and subtract to helping high school students understand Calculus. I had the opportunity to work as a paid math tutor for over a year and tutored kids in math voluntarily throughout high school.
I am a medical student currently attending the 6 year BA/MD program at UMKC. My interest in both the sciences and the humanities has led me to pursue a career in medicine. My favorite subjects to learn and teach include English reading and writing, Mandarin, math, and biology. I am especially passionate about teaching English reading and writing because as someone who personally went through the process of learning English from scratch, I deeply understand the challenges involved in honing one's language skills. I hope to use the lessons I have learned from my experience to help others who are working on improving their reading and writing skills, no matter how far they are along the process. I am patient, persistent, supportive, receptive to feedback, and I always strive to adapt my tutoring style to work with each student's unique needs and expectations.
I'm a Ph.D. candidate in French Studies at UCLA finishing my dissertation about contemporary French literature. My main research specializations are French language and literature. However, I also have a certification in critical theory and conduct research in cultural studies and music history. I have taught first- and second-year French classes at UCLA for four years, and before that, I taught first-year French for 3 years at the University of Kansas.
I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more.
I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Kansas. I am also a member of the University Honors Program, and I will be attending Notre Dame Law School in the fall. I am currently tutoring all sections of the ACT. These are my favorite subjects to tutor, as I am not very far removed from high school, but I have much experience helping clients reach their goals over the past three years. I understand the incredible impact a solid ACT score can have on the college process.
I am Chad Bergman, a current Dartmouth student pursuing my Bachelor's in Economics with a physics minor. I have experience tutoring college economics in person on Dartmouth campus as well as online tutoring in high school calculus and physics. I've had great success on the SAT and ACT as well as my AP tests in high school, and I hope to help others succeed as well. My favorite subject to tutor is physics because I feel like learning to apply a few fundamental principles to different real world situations is extremely useful in any discipline. While tutoring I try to help students master the fundamentals so they can apply them to the material we're working on as well as future material. Outside academia, I help look after my four siblings and play more League of Legends online than is perhaps healthy.
I am entirely committed to ensuring every one of my students break through the barriers preventing them from reaching their full potential. My process involves an individual, connected explanation of the content, discussing problem-solving strategies to make testing much easier than it seems, encouraging practice and the growth of individual learning, and making sure my style of teaching is right for my student's style of learning. Most importantly, I seek to make my students love learning as much as I do.
I am a student at the University of Kansas majoring in Political Science and minoring in French. I am qualified to tutor for many AP Courses (U.S. Government, U.S. History, and French Language) in addition to ACT and further language and English tutoring. I am not far removed from these courses and tests and am therefore able to help students uniquely as I remember being in there situations.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Manhattan's 14 schools with personalized 1-on-1 instruction. Whether your student attends a school in the Manhattan USD 383 district or nearby, we match them with tutors who understand Kansas academic standards and can support their specific coursework and learning goals.
While Manhattan's average class size is reasonable, individual student needs vary widely. Personalized 1-on-1 instruction fills gaps that classroom teaching alone can't address—whether your student needs to catch up, stay ahead, or work through a challenging concept at their own pace. Tutors focus entirely on your student's learning style and goals, something that's difficult in any group setting.
Absolutely. Tutors who work with Manhattan students are familiar with Kansas standards and the specific curriculum taught in local schools. They can help students master grade-level expectations, prepare for state assessments, and build skills that align with what's being taught in their classrooms.
Manhattan students seek tutoring across a wide range of subjects, with math and English being the most common—especially during transitions to middle and high school when concepts become more complex. We also support students in science, social studies, test prep (ACT, SAT), and AP courses. The best way to find out what's available is to tell us what your student needs.
The first session is about getting to know your student—their learning style, current challenges, and goals. The tutor will assess where they stand in their subject, ask about what's working and what isn't in their current learning, and create a plan for moving forward. It's a low-pressure conversation designed to build trust and set the foundation for effective learning.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions—there's no one-size-fits-all cost. We work with families to find an arrangement that fits their budget and their student's needs, whether that's weekly sessions, intensive test prep, or occasional help with specific topics. Contact us to discuss what would work best for your situation.
Yes. Varsity Tutors connects Manhattan students with tutors who specialize in ACT and SAT prep. Whether your student is starting early or preparing for an upcoming test date, personalized instruction targets their specific weak areas and test-taking strategies, which is much more effective than generic prep courses or self-study.
Start by telling us about your student's needs—their grade, subject, and what they're working toward. We'll match them with a tutor who's a good fit and can typically get started within a few days. The process is straightforward, and we're here to answer any questions along the way.
