I'm a Ph.D. candidate in French Studies at UCLA finishing my dissertation about contemporary French literature. My main research specializations are French language and literature. However, I also have a certification in critical theory and conduct research in cultural studies and music history. I have taught first- and second-year French classes at UCLA for four years, and before that, I taught first-year French for 3 years at the University of Kansas.

I am currently in my second year at the University of Kansas. I am majoring in secondary history and government education and minoring in art history. Most of my tutoring experience comes from high school, where I peer tutored a student in her world history class. As an upperclassman, I also gained a lot of mentoring experience on my school's debate team as I helped new debaters learn the ropes of the activity. As my intended college degree reflects, I am most excited about teaching history, government, and art history classes, but I have a strong background in English as well. As a former AP and honors high school student, I would love to share the strategies that I found to be the most successful. I believe education not only improves society, but can help shape students to their fullest potential. I would love to be someone who facilitates that development. Outside of academics, I am a total bookworm, my favorite TV show is The Good Place, and I try to spend as much time outside as I can without getting a sunburn.
I am enrolled in the Mechanical Engineering PhD program at Rice University which will begin Fall 2020, and I am hoping to return to academia as a professor after earning my PhD. In the meantime, I am looking to share my passion for gaining knowledge, specifically in STEM, by educating the up and coming members of such a great field. I have experience tutoring both Calculus and Physics at Notre Dame, as well as experience as a Student Assistant for Differential Equations and Mechanics. I believe the key to learning is much deeper than learning to solve problems and that seeking knowledge is one of the best means for personal improvement.
I am currently a senior at Washington University in St. Louis and will be attending law school next year. My areas of expertise are Political Science and Government, History, Writing, and ACT prep. I teach a weekly course to underserved youth for ACT prep and have done well personally on both the ACT and the LSAT. My philosophy is to guide you in your search to find the correct answers - not to give them to you. I am extremely goal-oriented, and I look forward to helping you achieve yours.
I am currently a first-year student at Northwestern University studying Neuroscience and Global Health. I have experience tutoring K-12 students in mathematics, ranging from teaching elementary school students how to add and subtract to helping high school students understand Calculus. I had the opportunity to work as a paid math tutor for over a year and tutored kids in math voluntarily throughout high school.
I am a medical student currently attending the 6 year BA/MD program at UMKC. My interest in both the sciences and the humanities has led me to pursue a career in medicine. My favorite subjects to learn and teach include English reading and writing, Mandarin, math, and biology. I am especially passionate about teaching English reading and writing because as someone who personally went through the process of learning English from scratch, I deeply understand the challenges involved in honing one's language skills. I hope to use the lessons I have learned from my experience to help others who are working on improving their reading and writing skills, no matter how far they are along the process. I am patient, persistent, supportive, receptive to feedback, and I always strive to adapt my tutoring style to work with each student's unique needs and expectations.
I am reliving the process of learning that concept myself, both by explaining the concept in new ways and by seeing students wrestle with and eventually grasp the concept for themselves. For me, teaching is a way of "living vicariously" through students by experiencing the joy of learning once more.
I am Chad Bergman, a current Dartmouth student pursuing my Bachelor's in Economics with a physics minor. I have experience tutoring college economics in person on Dartmouth campus as well as online tutoring in high school calculus and physics. I've had great success on the SAT and ACT as well as my AP tests in high school, and I hope to help others succeed as well. My favorite subject to tutor is physics because I feel like learning to apply a few fundamental principles to different real world situations is extremely useful in any discipline. While tutoring I try to help students master the fundamentals so they can apply them to the material we're working on as well as future material. Outside academia, I help look after my four siblings and play more League of Legends online than is perhaps healthy.
I am a former middle-school English teacher (and former high-school French teacher). I am certified to teach English (grades 6-12), History/Government/Social Studies (grades 6-12), Psychology (grades 6-12), Health (grades PreK-12), General Music (grades PreK-12), and French (grades PreK-12). I have also taught AP French and college-level French.
I am currently pursuing my undergraduate degree in Psychology at the University of Kansas. I am also a member of the University Honors Program, and I will be attending Notre Dame Law School in the fall. I am currently tutoring all sections of the ACT. These are my favorite subjects to tutor, as I am not very far removed from high school, but I have much experience helping clients reach their goals over the past three years. I understand the incredible impact a solid ACT score can have on the college process.
I am excited for the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for math with the students of Varsity Tutors.
I'm currently studying to be an elementary teacher and love working with students of all ages. Working with students on a daily basis has helped me to hone in on how to tailor lessons to individual students needs. I am excited to get the opportunity to continue this work through varsity tutors!

Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students across all four of Topeka's school districts—Topeka Public Schools, Shawnee Heights, Seaman, and Silver Lake. With 52 schools serving over 22,000 students in the area, we work with learners from elementary through high school, regardless of which district they attend.
Personalized 1-on-1 instruction targets the specific gaps preventing students from mastering Kansas standards in math, reading, science, and social studies. Tutors work directly with each student's learning pace and style, which research shows is significantly more effective than classroom instruction alone for closing achievement gaps and building mastery of state-level benchmarks.
Topeka students most frequently seek tutoring in algebra, geometry, and standardized test preparation (ACT and SAT), followed by reading comprehension and writing skills. Given Topeka's diverse student population across multiple districts, personalized instruction helps address individual learning challenges that may not be fully addressed in larger classroom settings with an average student-teacher ratio of 13.7:1.
The first session focuses on understanding your student's strengths, challenges, and learning goals. The tutor will assess current skill levels, identify specific areas needing support, and develop a personalized plan aligned with what your student is learning in their Topeka school. This foundation ensures every subsequent session builds directly toward measurable progress.
Absolutely. Varsity Tutors connects Topeka high school students with tutors experienced in ACT preparation, including test-taking strategies, content review, and practice testing with detailed feedback. Personalized ACT tutoring allows students to focus on their specific weak areas—whether that's math, English, reading, or science—rather than spending time on skills they've already mastered.
Personalized reading tutoring uses targeted strategies like phonics review, guided reading practice, and comprehension skill-building tailored to your student's specific reading level and interests. Working one-on-one with a tutor who can adjust pacing and materials daily helps students build confidence and make faster progress than they might in a traditional classroom where teachers manage many different reading levels simultaneously.
Varsity Tutors offers flexible tutoring packages designed to fit different budgets and schedules. Whether you need weekly sessions, intensive test prep, or occasional homework help, you can customize frequency and duration. We recommend discussing your specific needs and budget when you connect with us—we'll help you find a package that works for your family.
