I'm a recent PhD student at the University of Pennsylvania Biology Department and I have a Bachelor of Science from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver with a major in geology and a minor in biology. I've taught in the classroom setting to both lab and lecture classes as well as one on one teaching, the latter of which is my more preferred method. I was quick to discover during my time at Penn that teaching was important to me and that I wanted to continue teaching after I left. I loved teaching biology and statistics courses and helping students prepare for tests was particularly innervating. My teaching philosophy is centered around intuitive thought and explanation. Setting up a simple and logical path for a student to follow will not only get them to the correct answer to a problem themselves, but, more importantly, it will aid that student's memory on the topic far better than being told the correct answer will. Deeper understanding will always beat memorization. I have found this holds true for subject classes as well as for standardized test preparation.

I have a bachelor's of science in mathematics from the University of Illinois Chicago. Additionally, I've tutored for three years, have extensive experience teaching each of the following subjects: K-8 mathematics, Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus 1-3, AP Computer Science A, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Statistics, and AP Physics 1, and have a year of experience providing SAT and ACT prep (all sections). I'm planning on applying to PHD programs in media studies soon. I have been in love with learning all my life, and I hope to be a professor one day. In the meantime, when I am free, I spend a lot of time reading, learning french and watching films. I also like to travel whenever possible, and my favorite cities are Istanbul and Paris. I do my best to maintain a friendly, yet disciplined, tutoring style. I know learning can be hard, but it can also be enjoyable, and there is nothing quite like the feeling of being masterful over what was once obscure.

I then earned my PhD in Biomedical Science at Northwestern University where my thesis focused on developing a gene therapy for Parkinson's disease. I love teaching all things science!

My passion for tutoring stems from my experience as a TA, where I discovered that effective teaching goes beyond just delivering content; it's about building relationships and instilling confidence in students. With over two years of tutoring experience in math and computer science, I focus on fostering an interactive learning environment where students actively engage with the material. In Illinois I have been certified as an early education teacher as well as a teacher for grades up to grade 9. In conjunction with my library degree from the University of Chicago I wrote a thesis analyzing children's literature.
