I am a 4th year student at The University of Chicago majoring in Economics. I recently completed all of my coursework and am now filling my time with the activities I most enjoy. One of these activities is teaching. At the beginning of this academic year, I joined an organization on campus that teaches juniors and seniors at a local high school about community engagement through the lens of philanthropy. Through this, I have the unique opportunity to empower students to become leaders in their community; to provide them a platform to change issues about which they are most passionate. This experience inspires my desire to educate young students; to provide them the tools to be leaders, whether that be in the classroom, on the playing field, or in their community. My time as a youth soccer coach and tutor of my little brother and his friends has further bolstered my love of teaching. Given my extensive experience and longtime passion for math and applied math subjects, I feel I can best help students seeking help in these areas, though I have experience in a broad range of subjects. Outside of teaching, I enjoy playing soccer, basketball, guitar and piano, as well as cooking, hiking and listening to podcasts.

I have experience tutoring all levels of Spanish language, all sections of the SAT, as well as algebra, pre algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus! I'm Lizz, a middle school math teacher working in Chicago Public Schools. I love to see students go from describing themselves as "not a math person" to feeling like they meet exciting challenges in math and other parts of their lives. Even though I love working in the classroom, I feel like tutoring allows me to make more of an impact and connect with students.

I am a current sophomore at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee. I am studying Human and Organizational Development, a major that teaches students how to identify and solve problems in organizations and communities. In the future, I am looking to get involved in the nonprofit sector of education and may pursue teaching after graduation. I've always enjoyed each individual's ability to grow through the learning process and I firmly believe that an education is the most valuable gift one can give the next generation.

I'm a rising Junior at the University of Chicago studying Computational Neurosciences and Fundamentals: Literature & Philosophy. I've tutored 7th and 8th graders in Basic Algebra and essay construction and taught undergraduates Biostatistics and the literature of Valdimir Nabokov, so I'm prepared to work with any age or skill level. When I'm not tutoring this summer, I'll be doing electrophysiological research at NYU's Center for Neural Science and preparing to write my BA on James Joyce's Ulysses. I'm extremely versatile with expertise in a range of subjects and really enjoy helping students learn. I also excel at standardized testing and am excited to share the strategies that made me successful. In my free time, some of my favorite things to do are act, play guitar, and bike along the river. My background is perhaps a little unconventional. I have two bachelor's degrees, one in Engineering and one in Communication Studies, plus a Master's in Design. That combination means I can guide you through challenging technical material and communicate it in a way that is easy to grasp. What I care most about is helping students get to a place where they don't need me anymore. I know that sounds like a strange thing for a tutor to say, but I think it's the right goal. I'm not here to walk you through steps to copy down. I want you to understand why something works, because that's what holds up under pressure, on a test you haven't seen before. Right after graduation, I worked as an academic and test prep tutor as well as admissions consultant in Hong Kong. For the past two years, I worked with a number of students to help prepare them for college in the United States.

I am a life-long proponent of education and learning. I graduated from Princeton University with a B.A. in philosophy. After working for a few years, including in book publishing, I returned to school and completed my M.A. in history at the University of California, Berkeley. While there, I taught history and philosophy classes to undergraduates. I also taught Standardized Test Prep (SAT and GRE) for Summit Tutors and Kaplan.

I am a licensed attorney in Illinois who primarily represents children in guardianship disputes as the Guardian ad Litem as well as low-income clients in a myriad of housing and family law related cases. I graduated from Northwestern University with a BA in Philosophy in 2009. In May of 2014, I received my JD from Loyola University Chicago School of Law. I tutor Reading, Writing, History, Public Speaking, Standardized Test Prep, and am available to help with the college application process. Prior to law school, I assisted in the developing of curriculum for a homework help program at a community center in Chicago. I have always been passionate about how to best share and communicate ideas, whether written or spoken. My method for tutoring involves sharing this passion with students to better help them hone and express their own opinions.

I'm referring to math, of course, but I didn't always like the subject. Until about age 16, I thought of math as a boring, mind-numbing process of blindly memorizing formulas and then forgetting them after the test, but a series of wonderful teachers showed me the truth. I had thought that everything in math was invented arbitrarily just to torture students, but actually it all made sense in a deep way. When I caught a glimpse of what math really was, I found it irresistible and I ended up majoring in math in college at UChicago. I'm currently a Master's student in Computer Science at NYU.
