College has constantly been brought to my attention from my parents, family, and even peers. For the longest I didn’t even know if I wanted to go to college nor what I would go there for. All I knew is that my parents said that I’m going to college. From there on I started making an effort researching majors and trying to find one that i may have an interest in. Except I was still lost, all that I seen were the typical career paths that everybody picks and i knew I didn’t have an interest in being a nurse or even a lawyer. All I knew is that i had an interest in helping people, so from my aunt’s advice I began taking career path tests and of course i was still lost. That’s when i started to research more on TikTok and I began to find majors like business and marketing and i became interested but there was still something missing, so I continued to search for majors and that’s when I found accounting. The weight of not knowing a major for college was finally off my shoulders and i felt more at ease with college. At my high school they had a college and career fair for all grades and i was more than excited. It wasn’t going to be like my sophmore year when I had nothing to say when they asked me,”What’s your plans after high school?” so I felt more than prepared for the all the career questions they had to offer. Until I got to the fair and they started asking me what would be my top job choice for accounting after college. My mind hadn’t went that far yet, so I was lost when facing that question . After that day I began researching jobs for accountants, and seeing what all you need for the career. Once I started seeing the job types and all that came with accounting I knew that if I were asked that question again I would be more than prepared to give an answer. I am so grateful to not have known what i wanted to do in the beginning because all the adversity and confusion that i faced with finding a college career and even jobs afterwards shaped my mindset on how I want to go further in life and truly succeed with everything I do.
