Dancing by Savannah - March 2026 Scholarship Essay
As a dance teacher I consistently share my passion for dance with young dancers. I recall when I was a new dancer and how much I looked up to my dance teachers. I wanted to be just like them. They were my role models both in the studio and in life. As soon as I was old enough to be an assistant in the dance studio, I jumped at the chance. Now I am a dance teacher with my own classes, and I love seeing my dance students master new skills and remember the choreography. I know that my teaching makes a difference in their lives. I am patient with my students while also pushing them to improve. I explain to my students that the only person they are competing against is the dancer they were yesterday. After all A flower does not compete with the flower next to it, it just blooms. As a former competitive dancer myself, I know the thrill of taking the stage and performing. I have always loved that feeling but watching my students take the stage and shine makes that feeling pale in comparison. I have learned that watching my students grow into skilled dancers is a feeling I can't even describe.
