If I were to choose one skill I hope to master in the next few years, it would be the ability to truly connect with and understand people. While this may not seem like a traditional skill, I believe it is one of the most important abilities a person can have, especially in the career I plan to pursue. As someone who wants to go into cosmetology, I know that success is not just about technical ability, but about how well you can communicate, listen, and make others feel comfortable and valued.
Throughout my life, I have learned that everyone has their own story, and you never truly know what someone is going through. Because of this, I want to become someone who can create a safe and welcoming space for others, where they feel heard and supported. This is a skill that takes time to develop, and it requires patience, empathy, and strong communication. While I already value these qualities, I know there is always room for growth, and I want to continue improving in this area.
My plan for developing this skill begins with my education and experiences. As I continue through school and eventually enter a cosmetology program, I will be constantly interacting with different types of people. Each conversation and interaction will be an opportunity to practice listening, understanding, and responding in a way that makes others feel respected. I also plan to learn from mentors, instructors, and professionals in the field, observing how they communicate with clients and build strong relationships.
In addition, I will continue to challenge myself to step outside of my comfort zone. Whether it is through leadership roles, meeting new people, or simply having deeper conversations, I want to push myself to grow. I understand that mastering this skill will not happen overnight, but through consistency and effort over time.
In the future, I hope to use this skill to make a positive impact on others. I want my work to go beyond just providing a service—I want to help people feel confident, understood, and valued. To me, mastering the ability to connect with others is not just about improving myself, but about being able to uplift those around me.
