One skill I hope to master in the next few years is advanced patient care and communication in a medical setting, especially as it relates to becoming an MRI technician. This skill goes beyond simply operating imaging equipment—it involves making patients feel safe, understood, and comfortable during what can often be a stressful or unfamiliar experience. I have seen firsthand how much of a difference a kind, patient-centered approach can make, and I want to be the type of healthcare professional who leaves a lasting positive impact on every person I work with.

My interest in this skill comes from my own experience as a patient. When I went in for imaging, I remember feeling nervous and unsure of what to expect. However, the technician took the time to explain everything clearly, answered my questions, and treated me with genuine care. That experience stayed with me because it showed me how important communication and compassion are in healthcare. It is not just about doing a job correctly—it is about connecting with people and helping them feel at ease during vulnerable moments. That is the level of care I hope to provide in my future career.

To develop this skill, I plan to start by continuing my education in Radiologic Technology and fully engaging in both classroom learning and clinical experiences. I will focus not only on the technical aspects of imaging but also on how to communicate effectively with patients of all backgrounds. Asking questions, seeking feedback from instructors, and observing experienced professionals will help me grow. I also plan to take advantage of any opportunities for hands-on training, as real-world experience is one of the best ways to build confidence and improve communication.

In addition, I will work on strengthening my patience, empathy, and adaptability—qualities that are essential in-patient care. Because I have a specific learning disability and epilepsy, I understand what it feels like to face challenges and uncertainty. These experiences have taught me resilience and compassion, which I believe will help me connect with patients on a deeper level. I plan to use my personal experiences as motivation to continue growing and improving, even when things feel difficult.

Mastering patient care and communication will not happen overnight, but I am committed to putting in the time and effort it takes to improve. By combining my education, hands-on experience, and personal growth, I am confident that I can develop this skill and use it to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others.
