Biology: The scientific study of life and living organisms. I thought this subject was going to be hardest class I had to take freshman year. Between learning new vocabulary, memorizing tissues and their functions, identifying organs, and understanding how life came to be, I struggled to understand how all the concepts connected. I began to feel overwhelmed because it didn’t come to me as naturally as my other subjects.

Instead of giving up and letting my thoughts consume me, I decided to change the way I approached the class and my study tactics. I stopped trying to memorize every thing and focused on taking things one step at a time, making sure I understood how the different topics related to one other. I started reviewing my notes more often, printing out extra practice sheets, and spent more my time studying. In class, I took it upon myself to ask more questions and sometimes stayed after class practicing until I felt confident in the material.

As the school year went on, biology became one my strongest subjects. I became more confident in class and eventually became one of the top students. Most importantly, I learned to think more strategically instead of looking for quick answers or the easy way out. I taught myself to analyze the information, make connections, and solve things step by step.

This learning experience taught me that challenges are opportunities to grow. It showed me that with consistency, hard work, and the willingness to learn from mistakes, I can overcome difficult situations. Biology not only helped me become a better student, but it also strengthened the way I solve problems, think, and believe in my ability to succeed.
