One skill I hope to master by Gerald - April 2026 Scholarship Essay
A skill I hope to master in a few years is fatherhood because I want to be a great father to my children and teach them about life early so if I leave this earth, they will already know how life would be. I want to teach my children honesty, vulnerability, and self-care because they will not walk around being irrelevant to others because of their attitudes and what they don’t want to do for others. But I will also teach them that favors should have limits to them, especially if that person needs a favor every day because they don’t really care about you; they only care about how you show up for them.
I want to teach them that taking care of yourself is key whether it is cleanliness or mentally because you never want to walk around dirty because that's not a good label to put on yourself and others around you because if your dirty people first thoughts are “the people she/he hangs around is dirty too” and you mental is very important if your mental health is not where it should be, it’s completely ok to vent to someone or seek help because your mental is important and it is very serious if it is not where it’s supposed to be.
I also want to be a fun father besides teaching my children all these life lessons I want to have fun with them every other weekend and take them wherever they want to go on spring or summer break. In conclusion I want to teach my children about life but also show them that there is more to life; that’s why I would take them on vacation and teach them about historic places if we pass by them. I want my children to see me as their role model or bestfriend instead of their dad.
