Small Habit by Chance - February 2026 Scholarship Essay

Forcing myself not to procrastinate. I am not going to sit here and write an essay full of lies, saying that I naturally don't procrastinate or I love getting everything done right on time with no worries. The problem with that is it is just so far from the truth. My entire life I have struggled with procrastination. I always have gotten good grades, but a lot of that has to do with the consistent support I have around me. If I were by myself, I probably wouldn’t even be writing this essay right now. It was easier to deal with the tendency to procrastinate when I was young with very little responsibility on my plate. However, as I have gotten older, I have a job, participate in organized sports, school clubs, social life, and have a girlfriend. Responsibilities stack up like a loaf of bread. At the beginning of every school year, I tell myself that I will stay organized, stay motivated, and never lack discipline. Although those are all great starts to substantial success, none of those have ever been my problem. I think that is why I struggle with it so much. It is because I beat around the bush instead of taking the conflict head on. As I get older, tactics like this are not going to fly. Not with personal nor academic success. I believe that the experiences I go through within the next couple of months will really shape how I handle my future endeavors. I am prepared to better myself in order to succeed now and in the future, and I know exactly what I need to do.
