A small habit, which has greatly contributed to my academic and personal achievement, has been the constant practice of seeking and applying for scholarships. While it began as something I only did when I needed cash and was worried about financial issues, it has now become something I always make time for, ensuring I remain organized, inspired, and optimistic about my life and career path. Rather than waiting for approaching deadlines, I now regularly make time every week to search for, apply, and even submit four or five scholarship forms at a time.

This routine has helped me better manage my time since I have learned to divide big assignments into smaller ones that are easy to handle. Working on the applications one by one, rather than in large numbers, has helped me make the process less stressful and more productive. I have learned to be organized, especially in keeping track of the due dates, necessary documents, and letters of recommendations. This has helped me to be effective in other areas since I feel it is essential to be organized in time management, such as assignments and examinations. Application for scholarship programs has also helped me build confidence. This is so because every application makes me think about my goals, my challenges, and my achievements, and this gives me the confidence that I am capable of achieving all my goals in life. This gives me the confidence to believe in myself, and although I do not succeed in these scholarship programs, I learn to persist and not give up in all phases of my life.

On a personal note, this has helped alleviate some of the stress related to finances during college. The awareness that I am working towards getting help makes me feel more responsible and independent as an individual. This habit also reminds me to be aware that, yes, albeit small, these could potentially create great opportunities in the future. In general, while applying to this scholarship opportunities may not be considered a big deal, the effect it has had on my personal development cannot be underemphasized. There are obvious benefits to my improved levels of organization and perseverance, and it has allowed me to keep my priorities in perspective. Perhaps most importantly, it has exposed me to the idea and reality of making opportunities happen, regardless of how unlikely they may have been in the past.
